The Commanders signed ex-Giant defensive tackle D.J. Davidson to the roster this past week.

There was an increase of 13 in the number of mocks being tracked this week, rising to 290 mocks tracked. Sixty-three percent of mock pick data occurred in last few weeks. The distribution for Washington by position is:

The shift of the pick from edge to running back continues this week, with edge reducing 1.5% and running back gaining almost 2.4%. The other position with a big surge this week was cornerback, with Mansoor Delane showing up in more mocks. Along with edge, wide receiver and linebacker were the other two big losers this past week.
Washington holds the 7th pick in the first round. The players mocked to Washington with that pick are:

While Love remained at the top spot, Bain dropped to fourth while Bailey and Downs moved up one spot. Delane moved ahead of Reese and double his percentage of the picks. A new pick was added this week, Olaivavega Ioane, widely regarded as the best guard in the draft. However, I still don’t see the Commanders going offensive line with the 7th pick given their other needs.
Draft Thoughts
With just about two weeks to go until the draft, the rumor mill is heating up. Multiple reports have the Cowboys discussing with the Cardinals what it would take for Dallas to move from 12 to 3 in pursuit of David Bailey. Dallas has the 12th and 20th picks in the first round so they have the draft capital to make that move. The Jets are also reportedly interested in a trade down in which they get more picks. The Jets are in a financial bind with $104M in dead cap, so drafting more players on rookie deals helps that situation.
Miami is another team with a huge dead cap number, $179M, and they supposedly are very interested in Rueben Bain. Washington is frequently mentioned in a Miami trade up scenario to get Bain. Miami’s 11th pick is about the right range for Delane, plus Washington would likely get at least a third-round pick also in the deal.
The best news is that Adam Peters has positioned Washington with flexibility in the draft, so they are not forced to be single-minded in their approach to the draft. I don’t see Washington moving up to take Bailey or Love in the draft, but a trade back is a distinct possibility.
