Washington added some quality veteran depth in the cornerback room today, signing journeyman Rasul Douglas to a one-year deal valued at 3.8 million.
Douglas was drafted by the Eagles in the 3rd round in 2017 and was released by the NFC East rival after three seasons. He then jumped around: a year in Carolina, two and a half in Green Bay, then one and a half in Buffalo and last year in Miami. While not a starting corner, he has playing experience; he has played over 6,600 defensive snaps over his career and played at least 87% of the defensive snaps for his respective teams every year over the last 5 years.
Last season with Miami, he had a very solid year, allowing a quarterback rating of 73 and had a 54% completion rate against him.
In terms of where he would fit in DC, his 6’2 frame makes him better suited for an outside defensive back, and fighting for playing time with the likes of Witherspoon and Amos.
Adding Douglas gives Washington more depth at one of the few positions they didn’t really address on defense this offseason.
