Washington’s Offensive Line

As I mentioned in my last column on the tackle group, Washington’s offensive line finished 15th in the NFL, and allowed a total of 15 sacks at a sack rate of 7.31%, which was ranked 19th. This unit was approximately middle of the road among all league offensive lines in average time allowed to throw, at 3.0 secondsWhile they weren’t exceptional in pocket time allowed, they improved from the 2024 season, reducing the sacks allowed compared to 50 sacks allowed the previous season.

As for the run game, they were certainly solid but inconsistent at times. While there was a clear upgrade in protection for Jayden Daniels and company, via fewer sacks/pressures, the run blocking remained a work in progress – they were functional enough to create a few explosive moments but they didn’t generate nearly enough to help the passing game. This interior group looks questionable beyond right guard Samuel Cosmi in many respects, starting with C Nick Allegretti‘s inexperience at the position. The left guard position with Brandon Coleman and Chris Paul has shown promising growth in pass blocking but they both struggle in the run game especially when in space. Today, let’s take a look at Washington’s offensive interior depth.

C Nick Allegretti: 6’4” / 312 lbs, age 23
  • Experience:7-year career starting games in recent seasons including significant starts in 2024-2025 with the Commanders.
  • Rundown: Allegretti saw limited and inconsistent action in 2025 (around 260 offensive snaps). He started select games but struggled with consistency and pressures/sacks allowed in his limited duty, allowing 8 pressures and 1 sack. After signing an extension, Allegretti will be moved to start at center for Washington after the release of C Tyler Biadasz. Prior to 2025, he had only played 78 career NFL snaps at center, with the majority occurring in 2023.

C Matt Gulbin: 6’4” / 310 lbs, age 30

  • Experience:Drafted in 6th round (209th pick overall).
  • Scouting Report: He is a tough, technically sound interior offensive lineman whose biggest strengths are his power at the point of attack, strong anchor in pass protection, and versatility after starting at all three interior line spots in college. He shows good balance and leverage when engaging defenders and rarely gets overwhelmed by bull rushes. he is an average athlete with limited lateral quickness and below-average range when asked to block in space. Faster interior defenders can challenge him on reach blocks and counters because he lacks elite recovery ability.
RG Sam Cosmi: 6’7” / 309 lbs, age 27
  • Experience: 6-year career starting started 58 games through 2025, primarily at guard for Washington.
  • Rundown: Cosmi has been a reliable, high-level contributor for Washington despite injury setbacks (including a prior ACL tear that affected his 2025 availability). In 2025, he delivered strong play in 545 total snaps as one of the team’s top performers. He allowed very few pressures/sacks with 11 pressures and 2 sacks in while showing excellent late-season consistency with multi-game pressure-free stretches. His athleticism, length, and versatility make him a cornerstone being very strong in both run and pass blocking .

LG Brandon Coleman: 6’6” / 320 lbs, age 25

  • Experience: 2-year career entering third season starting a total of 17 games with 5 starts coming at left guard last season.
  • Rundown: As a young developmental piece, Coleman saw 390 offensive snaps last season allowing 11 pressures and zero sack before LG Chris Paul finished the season. While having his struggles, Coleman shows promise as an interior lineman and provides valuable versatility/depth at the guard and tackle position. Will need to clean up his struggles in the run game and working in space in order to become a reliable starting guard.

LG Chris Paul: 6’4” / 324 lbs, age 27

  • Experience: 5-year career (7th-round pick in 2022) and has started 23 games through 2025 all starting duty at LG.
  • Rundown: Paul emerged as a steady starter logging 926 offensive snaps allowing 17 pressures and 2 sacks. He excelled in pass protection but did show some struggle in run blocking. Paul certainly has the potential to win that left guard position as his steady improvement over the years will push Brandon Coleman.

T/G Andrew Wylie: 6’5” / 304 lbs, age 31

  • Experience: 8-year career with time split between guard and tackle. In 93 total career starts, 40 starts were at guard and 53 as tackle.
  • Rundown: He started the first five games of the season at right guard while incumbent starter Sam Cosmi recovered from an ACL injury. For the remainder of the season, he served as the primary backup at both tackle and guard positions, providing critical depth during a season marked by offensive line inconsistency. In a total of 362 (194 snaps in pass protection) offensive snaps Wylie allowed 9 total pressures and 1 sack. He was still inconsistent on running downs as he often struggled against elite physical defenders and lacked the consistent power to move defenders in the run game.
G Julian Good-Jones: 6’5” / 313 lbs, age 29
  • Experience: Zero career starts; signed from Eagles 2023 PS then on/off roster since.

G Tyler Cooper: 6’5” / 302 lbs, age 25

  • Experience: Signed futures contract.

G Timothy McKay: 6’4” / 312 lbs, age 24
  • Experience: Signed futures contract.
  • Scouting Report: McKay is a  developmental prospect whose appeal comes from his physical tools and flashes of upside rather than polished consistency. He has shown the ability to react quickly and make disruptive plays in space but inconsistency in technique and processing as significant weaknesses
G Tanoa Togiai: 6’6” / 307 lbs, age 24
  • Experience: Zero career starts; signed from Eagles 2023 PS then on/off roster since.
  • Scouting Report: He is a physically imposing interior lineman whose greatest strengths are his size, raw strength, and power as a run blocker. He has the ability to generate movement at the point of attack and his heavy hands when engaging defenders. He can struggle changing direction in space and occasionally loses balance when defenders attack his edges.
