Free Agency preview 2026: Offensive Line

The current state of Washington’s current offensive line:

If there has been one area where Adam Peters has had real success in this rebuild, it has been the improvements on the offensive line. Last year, Washington spent significantly on the line, using their 1st round pick on right tackle Josh Conerly and trading for left tackle Laremy Tunsil, adding to that a solid interior, including Samuel Cosmi; however, the team created a hole out of nowhere with the release of center Tyler Biadasz. The two decisions the front office needs to make are now at starting center and left guard.  Do they want to bring back Chris Paul or continue to develop Brandon Coleman and project him as a starter? Is Nick Allegretti the new starting center? The team signed Andrew Wylie to a two-year deal, a key backup at both guard and tackle.

On paper, Allegretti is the other backup at guard on the roster. And the team has some extra depth with Jullian Good-Jones, Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu, Tim McKay, Tyler Cooper, giving them plenty of options on the inside.

Pending Free Agents:
That said, Washington is set to lose several players to free agency. Tackles Trenton Scott, George Fant, and Lucas Niang are all set to hit the market. I’d suspect the team will then try to re-sign Chris Paul for depth as well.  The former 7th rounder played well at that position last year. They still have a lot of depth on the inside of the line as well.

Right now the team really needs more tackle depth. They could also arguably look for a second center.

Washington absolutely should not be looking to spend big money this offseason, but lets talk about a few tackles and centers who will be available on the market that would make sense for this roster. When it comes to the current group of pending free agent tackles I think I’d lean towards bringing back at least one of these veteran tackles, maybe Trenton Scott. Yes, he’s older but the times we have seen him on the field and in preseason he always played decently enough. But it would also be smart of the team to look for at least one younger backup to add to the roster.

Possible targets:
Of the younger backups who may be available, the two names I would keep an eye on are Larry Boom, a 26 year old who spent 5 years in Chicago and one in Miami. He’s had a fair amount of playing time for a backup with 37 starts in his career, a single-season high of 11 starts in a season.

It’s always a good idea to keep an eye on former 49ers for the next few years, and Spencer Burford, the 25 year old left tackle, was drafted by San Fran in 2022 in the 4th round. Thanks to those health issues down by the bay, he’s seen a lot of action over the last four years, playing over 2100 snaps.

The point of this post is to give you all an idea of who will be available in free agency, so let me give you some of the big names at each position group.
