2022 Road to the Draft – Part 7

March 3, 2022

By Noonefromtampa

It has been a fairly quiet week for the Washington Commanders. It was leaked that Brandon Scherff will not likely be re-signed to the roster which most people expected to happen. Plus, on the third attempt, Washington finally got its crest logo accurate with the right Super Bowl championship dates. It should not be that hard, folks.

The position focus is still centered on quarterback, but the overall percentage dropped 3.7% from last week. Interior offensive line, wide receiver and safety were the top three areas picking up picks in the various mocks.

The Matt Corral streak continues again, as he remains the most frequently selected quarterback, but Kenny Pickett and Malik Willis have picked up steam and are virtually tied with Corral. Willis overtook the second position from Pickett this week.

Trades

Since we are up to five trades, I broke this out into its own section. We have two new trades this week, both involving the Seattle Seahawks and Russell Wilson. One involves three picks and the other four picks plus Taylor Heinicke. Personally, I am not in favor of trading away a number of picks for a quarterback (again). I would rather draft the guy the team thinks it can develop and pick up a decent free agent quarterback to compete as the starter this year.  Get a young guy they can coach up and surrounding him with talent is the way to build for sustained success. Washington is not Tampa Bay where one good QB puts the team in the Super Bowl.
