Road to the Draft – Part 14

Welcome to the latest edition of The Hog Sty’s mock draft tracker column.

It’s a little over a week until the draft and this is the second to last column this draft season. The biggest conversation about the upcoming Washington Football Team draft is whether the team should trade up for a new quarterback, stay put at nineteen or move back for additional picks. Several members of the national media are still reporting that Washington is enamored with Trey Lance and will try to move up to select him. A number of recent mocks reflect a trade up scenario for WFT now – more detail about that later in this column.

There were no major moves made league-wide last week that impacted the overall draft.

The Mocks

The number of mock drafts published went up significantly this week from 241 to 261. For the first time since this draft season there is a new position atop Washington’s position distribution board. Linebacker has overtaken offensive tackle as the most likely position chosen by Washington in the draft. The position distribution is now:

Position Picked Count Picked % Last Week % % Change
LB 67 25.67% 22.82% 2.85%
OT 59 22.61% 25.31% -2.71%
QB 49 18.77% 18.67% 0.10%
IOL 36 13.79% 13.28% 0.52%
WR 33 12.64% 13.69% -1.05%
CB 7 2.68% 2.07% 0.61%
S 4 1.53% 1.66% -0.13%
Edge 3 1.15% 1.24% -0.10%
TE 2 0.77% 0.83% -0.06%
DT 1 0.38% 0.41% -0.03%
Grand Total 261 100%

The full impact of Washington’s free agency signings is reflected in this new distribution. Linebacker rose nearly 3% this week, continuing the gains from last week. Offensive tackle and wide receiver were the biggest losers. The rest of the positions had minor fluctuations.
