Road to the Draft – Part 2

We are one week into the Washington Football Team’s offseason and already major changes are underway. Martin Mayhew has come onboard as the new General Manager and Marty Hurney as the Executive Vice President of Football/Player Personnel. As of this writing, it is rumored that Kyle Smith will be leaving the organization and that there may a significant overhaul of the scouting department. The Hog Sty will keep everyone updated as more information becomes public and what we think the impacts are to the draft.

Draft Pool

The underclassmen declaration period had ended with 98 players being granted special eligibility, another 30 players graduated early and are also eligible. Some notable players returning to school are:

  • Darian Kinnard, OL, Kentucky
  • Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State
  • Mohamed Ibrahim, RB, Minnesota
  • Tyler Linderbaum, C, Iowa
  • Jordan Davis, DL, Georgia
  • Zamir White, RB, Georgia
  • Ty Fryfogle, WR, Indiana
  • Brock Purdy, QB, Iowa State
  • Justyn Ross, WR, Clemson

Most of these players will probably be high round picks in the 2022 draft.

At the top position pick, offensive tackle, the leading pick is Christian Darrisaw with Sam Cosmi second. At quarterback, the picks are spread almost equally across Trey Lance, Mac Jones and Kyle Trask. At wide receiver, Jaylen Waddle and Rashad Bateman are the leading picks. At linebacker, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah is the consensus pick for WFT.
