Game Summary

First Quarter

Washington started on offense and went 3 & out with one run and two passes for zero net yards. Thanks in part to a 15 yard punt return by D.J. Reed, the Seahawks immediately drove 40 yards in 8 plays to convert a 43 yard field goal by Jason Myers. Wilson was able to scramble for a first down by running for 11 yards on a 3rd and 4 to extend the drive at a critical point. WFT did manage to pick up a first down on the first play of the next series with an 11 yard run by J.D. McKissic but punted after three more plays after losing 7 yards. The Washington defense held Seattle to 21 yards on the next drive, but the Seahawks punt penned the offense inside the 5 yard line. WFT managed to gain 24 yards on 8 plays before being forced to punt.

Score: Seahawks 3, WFT 0

Second Quarter

Seattle then drove the ball 37 yards on 10 plays to kick another field goal of 40 yards by Myers. The key play on the drive was an apparent touchdown pass from Wilson to Freddie Swain that was overturned on review because Swain did not get both feet inbounds. WFT responded with its best offense series of the game going 48 yards on 8 plays. Logan Thomas was the key player on the drive picking up 44 yards on 4 catches. However,  disaster struck when Isaiah Wright tipped a pass which was intercepted by Shaquill Griffin. On the next series Seattle drove 97 yards, during which Wilson scrambled for 38 yards on 2nd and long and Shaun Dion Hamilton gave up a 17 yard pass interference penalty. Wilson threw a 10 yard touchdown to Jacob Hollister to cap the drive. Washington responded with an 11 play, 46 yard drive which ended with a 48 yard Dustin Hopkins field goal to avoid a first half shut out. Key plays on the drive included a 13 yard pass to McKissic, a 10 yard pass to Thomas and an 18 yard pass to Terry McLaurin.

Score: Seahawks 13, WFT 3

Third Quarter

Seahawks opened the second half with 22 yards from Chris Carson and then a 50 yard touchdown from Carlos Hyde where Ronald Darby missed the key tackle, for a 4 play, 75 yard drive. WFT started moving the ball again going 39 yards before Reed intercepted a pass intended for Cam Sims. The Washington defense held Seattle to a 3 and out, but WFT responded with its own 3 and out. Seahawks were held to a second consecutive 3 and out but a penalty on the punt backed Washington up to their own 4 yard line. Washington then started a drive that last into the 4th quarter.

Score: Seahawks 20, WFT 3

Fourth Quarter

During the drive, Robert Foster caught his first pass of the game for 9 yards and a roughing the passer penalty was also assessed on the play. Logan Thomas caught 4 passes for 27 yards, while McLaurin had a 17 yard catch, McKissic has a 12 yard reception, and Haskins scrambled for 12 yards. The drive ended with a 1 yard touchdown run by Peyton Barber. Hopkins missed the extra point wide right. Seahawks drove 36 yards down the field when Montez Sweat tipped a Wilson pass which was intercepted by Daron Payne.  Washington then went on an 11 play, 64 yard drive ending with a McKissic 6 yard touchdown reception. The two point conversion failed. Key plays on the drive included several passes to Cam Sims for a total of 25 yards, McKissic running and catching for 19 yards, and a 7 yard scramble by Haskins. The Washington defense came up big forcing a three and out against Seattle’s offense. After the punt, Washington started at its own 15 yard line with 5:34 on the clock. They began to drive the ball down the field, with assistance from a challenge on a ball spot for a first down. A catch by McLaurin and an unnecessary roughness added 24 yards. Steve Sims caught a pass for 11 yards. At that point, though, the wheels came off the comeback bus. An incompletion to Thomas was followed by back-to-back sacks that put WFT into a 4th and 24 situation with just over a minute left. They failed to convert and Seattle was able to run out the lock for the win.
