If you’re not familiar with my rants, they are about all things I consider stupid, dumb, unfair, idiotic and downright infuriating. This edition focuses on some social justice issues that are related to the NFL, and a few hot topics trending in Redskins news.
First of all, Colin Kaepernick is not going to get a job in the NFL with an open lawsuit against the league. Would you hire a person that’s suing your company? No, you wouldn’t. Those that shake their head or post on social media about how Kaepernick continues to be skipped over, stop it! Until the collusion case is settled, the Redskins have a better chance at going 16-0 before Kaepernick is on an NFL roster.
Now to why this issue really pisses me off! If you think the NFL hasn’t colluded against Colin Kaepernick, you’re not smart. I’m not going to call you dumb, stupid, or idiotic, but open your eyes. Don’t act like it’s impossible. These are multimillionaires and in some cases billionaires. They can make it happen, and you know it. And don’t insult me by telling me, “Kaepernick sucks”. Here’s a list of just SOME of the backup quarterbacks in the NFL last year, Scot Tolzien, Matt Barkley, Kellen Moore, Christian Hackenberg, Brett Hundley, Jake Rudock, Ryan Griffin, and Bryce Petty. Yeah, those guys are LIGHT YEARS better than Kaepernick! Gimme a break. Prior to the lawsuit, Kaepernick was out of the league based on his stance on social issues, not his ability to play football.
Anthem Protests (revisited)
I was not a fan of the anthem protests to begin with, particularly on a large scale. Players were not united on this issue, and many were thrust into it because they felt they had to. I’m not saying, at all, that they didn’t have a right to. They did. But what was the result? The NFL donated 100 million dollars to causes for social justice. Money helps, but money’s easy for those that have it. There are still cases of police officers using excessive force, and people on both sides are still just as angry. At the end of it all, I’m all for displays of resistance but as a means to an end.
The NFL…High Priced Slavery
You often hear some refer to the NFL and other pro sports as “high priced slavery”. Renowned author and columnist William C. Rhoden wrote a book entitled, “The Forty Million Dollar Slave”. This is the dumbest s**t I’ve heard.
The trans-atlantic slave trade was one of the most horrific institutions in world history. In this country, slaves were unpaid, beaten, maimed, burned, castrated, amputated, bought, sold, and disenfranchised. We should never even ATTEMPT to make a comparison. In my opinion, it’s disrespectful and dishonorable to those that lived through slavery to even try to draw a correlation. Today, players are traded for money, and play for money. Now, you could argue that NFL players make a mere pittance for their job with high risk, and that would be a great argument, but slavery? It is not. Stop it. I guess the optics of African American players in the NFL and the NBA playing for rich white owners would lead one to try to make a connection. For me, there is none.
Redskins Off Season/Free Agency
I’m all for a strategic and measured approach to free agency, but I said before it started, the Redskins needed difference makers on BOTH sides of the ball! Look at the offense. Alex Smith may not be “elite” but, he’s a difference maker and opposing teams have to account for his running ability. Chris Thompson is elite. Trent Williams is elite. When healthy, Jordan Reed is elite. Brandon Scherff is on his way to being elite. But look at the defense. Who’s the difference maker? Zach Brown? Ryan Kerrigan? Maybe, but that’s your only one or two. I’m not talking about good players, or solid players. I’m talking about difference makers. They need more and it appears they will look to the draft. They need “hits” and early “hits”, not “projects”.
Finally, there are reports that Dan is not happy with Bruce. Well if that’s true, do something about it Dan! You’ve fired other folks for less.

I politely declined to take one.
There was an elderly woman behind me and a young (20-ish) female protester offered her a pamphlet, which she politely declined.
The young protester gently put her hand on the old woman’s shoulder and in a patronizing voice said, “Don’t you care about the children of Iraq?”
The old woman looked up at her and said: “Honey, my father died in France during World War II, I lost my husband in Korea , and a son in Vietnam. All three died so a naive, ignorant, self-centered bimbo like you could have the right to stand here and badmouth our country, and if you touch me again, I’ll shove this umbrella up your ass and open it.”

So, Bruce Feldman got two days with the new Nebraska staff. In an interview, he talked about schemes and he split “scheme” up; or included the systematics of coaching scheme. Don’t worry, I’m moving this to talking about Jay Gruden. But, he said there’s Scott Frost’s offensive scheme that is obvious to outsiders, but then there’s his totality scheme of preparation, motivation, etc. that everyone buys in on from players to coaches. He said Scott Frost is largely a blend of Chip Kelly, Tom Osborne, and Mike Tomlin, and it shows in everything he does. It re-emphasizes what we have been questioning about Jay. It is all well and good that he can scheme up an offense. But, can he scheme up an off-season? A productive commander’s intent? Recognize what coaching needs to be done and put the right people in those positions to coach… offense, defense, special teams? Is their FO staff that can properly help him there?

The irony is this…for those that feel so strongly against Colin Kapernick “disrespecting the flag”. I’m sure he feels JUST as strongly about his “issues” as well. So why can’t he be just as pissed as you? Kneeling at the anthem is a deeply personal insult to many. But why can’t he be deeply insulted at something too.
To me, this is indicative of where we are as a country….no one tries to empathize or hear both sides. Thus, we cannot move forward.
As I said in my rant, I stand for the anthem, but that’s me.
Kaepernick can be as mad as he wants, and I can choose to not support the product that he’s selling as a result of his anthem insult, which I did. But he needs to remember that he’s helping to sell a product, and we are the consumers.

It’s standard media incitement. There’s been several pro players choosing to sit, stand or not acknowledge the flag during the anthem. NFL and NBA. Just happens that when they stuck a microphone in Kaeps face he spoke some very controversial words. It wasn’t simply based on religion like Shareef Abdul Raheem. I think that’s the heart of it. Most white people dont believe there’s truly any police injustice any more than before. So it’s a standoff.
Those that all of a sudden feel passionate about his stance I think is reallllly suspect. Like Why now? To not watch the nfl all of a sudden ? That’s some basic Fox News fanboy BS, IMO. Nothing to see here. Let him peacefully kneel or whomever and move on. But that won’t happen…I wonder why?

Russia has completed their Syria Chemical attack investigation
The Russian military says that an alleged chemical attack in Syria was staged and directed by Britain.
Volunteer first responders and activists claimed a chemical attack by the Syrian government killed over 40 people in the town of Douma, which drew international outrage and prompted Washington and its allies to consider a military response. Moscow warned against any strikes and threatened to retaliate.
Russian Defense Ministry spokesman, Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov, released statements by medics from Douma’s hospital who said a group of people toting video cameras entered the hospital, shouting that its patients were struck with chemical weapons and causing panic. The medics said none of the patients were hurt by chemicals.

Seriously, though, when you are going to lie, its got to at least be plausible….
If you read into this, it’s a warning. The Russians know that nobody with a brain would believe that the Brits did this. Everyone knows Assad did it. But this is a warning to the U.S. and British that if we retaliate against their buddy Assad for this attack, there’ll be consequences of some sort. That’s how I read this.
They already said that explicitly.
And the U.S.’s response needs to be to ignore it and retaliate, forcefully, anyway.
There are no good options here. Any significant attack is going to put us in direct conflict with Russia and Iran. Unless the plan is to go all-in on Syria, Trump should follow his original plan and stay the fuck out of it.
It’s way too late to stay out of it now.

I looked pretty closely, with a reasonablyeducated eye, at the post-attack photos from the last year’s cruise missile attack against the airfield, and it didn’t appear to me that the attack did much that was significant, unfortunately. The response needs to be much bigger. Russia actually doesn’t want to start WWIII – they just they that the U.S. will show weakness and back down, which, at least for the past 9 years, we have a history of.
Problem is there’s not much we can do without moving a whole bunch of ground troops in to follow up, and we’ve seen that movie before. It doesn’t end well.

My first job out of college was working for my then-brother-in-law’s parking company. We had a lot of Ethiopians working for us at the time. They came as refugees from the civil war and famine back home. Many of them were highly educated: doctors, engineers, etc. One guy in particular grew up with Ethiopian royalty, knew Haile Selassie, etc.
He had the calmest, most dignified manner you can imagine. We had him working in the parking booth at Saks 5th Ave. in Chevy Chase. The store provided free parking for decades, but their lot was getting filled up by overflow traffic from new stores nearby, so they decided to start charging a flat rate of $1. By the reaction of the patrons you’d have thought we were asking for a kidney.
So one day I’m there and a lady pulls up in a huge Benz. She’s wearing a mink or sable coat and she’s dripping in diamonds. Haile says, “that will be $1 ma’am,” and she fucking UNLOADS on him. F-bombs flying everywhere. Finally she stops and Haile says, “(paraphrasing) Madame, I am surprised that a woman of your obvious class, stature, and fine upbringing would become so exercised over something as insignificant as a single dollar!” She looked at him for a minute, handed over a dollar, and drove off without another word.
Similar thing happened with one of our American workers, except he grabbed the bitch by the hair and bounced her head of the door frame. That was a fun conversation.

Back around 2004 where I worked we had a contract janitor named Angel who worked during the days cleaning the bathrooms and breakrooms for the company I worked of about 400 people
I noticed in November that he was working a second shift in the evening when they did the trash pickup and vacuuming. I talked with him and he was trying to earn extra money to get presents for his kids for Christmas. He and his wife both worked and her mother watched the kids during the day.He had been a policeman in El Salvador but came to America because of the crime and how the police had been targeted. His brother who was also a policeman had been killed.
Compared to the prior contract custodial firm we used, our bathrooms were now spectacularly clean all day long. So I was talking with my buddy and we decided hey let see if we can get some money together and help Angel gets some gifts for his kids. Well one person told another and it blew up, soon we got him a $600 Walmart gift card.
Now as you know no good deed goes unpunished. Well Angel was so overwhelmed by our generosity and his good fortune that he decided to share with his co-worker who mainly worked the evening shift. He bought hams for each of them.
When his boss found out he was mad at Angel and even angrier with me. Because his employees would now be “expecting” something at holiday time from now on.

Yeah, I know of two different people from central America with similar stories, one was a rancher in Guatemala who shot a judge that was trying to steal his land, the other, from El Salvador, saw his brother killed by a police hit squad and had huge scars on his forearms from fending off one of the attacker’s machetes. Both came here and never looked back.
I had a friend in DC who hung drywall during the day and bussed tables at night. He had been a banker in Guatemala, but was on the wrong side of the ‘death squads’, so he had to flee with his wife.
Yeah, this guy worked with my dad as a carpenter, used to come over and drink with him after work. It was a political attack, though I can’t remember the details. The rancher was a guy I worked with.

The owners are all business men and could have individually come to the same conclusion: it’s better for my business to have a back up quarterback who doesn’t drive away 1/3 of my customers.

If there is collusion, I don’t think it is specifically him, it’s that they have an unwritten policy that they’re done with anthem protests. Agree with the issue or not, the NFL has decided they are going to wade into the issue and choose between patriotism and police vs a perceived bias that may or may not exist. the NFL continues down the theme of team over player, and they will not allow players on the NFL dime to represent as an agent for the league on this issue. That’s clear.
