These LB vs. RB 1-on-1 blocking drills are always fun to watch. 👀
Seeing Sonny Styles’ speed in person is impressive. Bill needed to improve his pass protection last season, and getting reps against guys like Luvu, Styles and Chenal is only going to make him better.

David Blough with another hook and ladder! Treylon Burks catches it and pitches back to Bill, but Bill fumbles it after a few steps, ball goes out of bounds. #Commanders

Joint practice with the Miami Dolphins
Commanders just wrapped their joint practice with the Dolphins. Irresponsible amount of observations coming.
🏈 Miami is not going to be good. That's important to state before I comment any further about how lopsided in WSH's favor today's practice was. And it did feel lopsided…

I’m very bullish on this Washington defense.
Leo Chenal said today, “It's really starting to come out where guys are finally playing, like, ‘okay, less scheme’ and things are becoming more muscle memory…we're definitely able to play faster, more downhill, better.” pic.twitter.com/qtvYs5WzuR

On the OL: some struggles running the ball inside. Coleman/Conerly were fine in run blocking. Wonder about the interior depth for sure. Lots to show. Losing Tunsil hurts big time but his absence wasn't the reason for interior play. Daniels also a cheat code in the pocket.

Commanders definitely won the day on both sides of the ball against the Dolphins.
Jayden Daniels mostly had his way against the Miami D, but strong finish in the late scenario with Taaffe PBU in end zone. Offense struggled to move for most part, and Malik Willis was forced to…

My takeaways from Commanders-Dolphins joint practice:
1. Jayden Daniels had a big day. Super accurate throughout the day.
2. Chig and Diggs are gonna get a ton of volume. Both made several plays in the short/intermediate pass game today
3. Defensive line popped. Oweh and…— Ethan Cadeaux (@Ethan_Cadeaux) August 12, 2026

Preseason game against the Miami Dolphins
#Commanders beating the Dolphins 20-7 REACTION!
🏈I thought that there wasn’t a discernible drop off between the second, third, and fourth string players, which does speak to the bottom-of-roster depth
🏈They are hiding Antonio Williams and Daronte’s scheme
🏈Ricky Barber and…

Meet Robert Henry. Undrafted out of UTSA. Runs a 4.50 40-yard dash but he's quick.

Injuries
Marcus Mariota – right knee.
Day 18 – Saturday, August 15th
No practice, player rest day
Injuries
No injuries reported.
Notes
The injury to Mariota is concerning because neither Sam Hartman or Athan Kaliakmanis are ready to be the backup quarterback. Hartman did not show much improvement over last year, so should the Commanders keep investing in him or do they move on?
Offensive line play was uneven throughout the game and should be a concern at this point.
The final running back group on the active roster is going to be a disappointment to some rookie. Sixth round pick Kaytron Allen rushed 23 times for 85 yards with one touchdown. Undrafted Robert Henry Jr. ran 12 times for 75 yards (6.3 YPC) with a nice 22-yard touchdown.
Luke McCaffrey did not advance his case with zero catches on two targets, one of which would have been a touchdown for Hartman. Jaylin Lane led all receivers with three catches on four targets for 31 yards. Jacoby Jones led in receiving yards with 33 yards on two catches.
Among tight ends, Colson Yankoff has two catches to one for Ben Sinnott.
The defense did not look great on the first drive with the Commanders’ backups against the Dolphins’ starters. Quan Martin got a long look in the first half and responded with an interception. Ale Kano and Malik Spencer also had picks in the game.
Sonny Styles started the game but only played one series.
Overall, the coaches and front office should be pleased with the effort and results.
The next game is in Detroit against the Lions on Saturday, August 22nd.
