Washington’s Offensive Line
Washington’s offensive lined finished 15th in the NFL, and allowed a total of 15 sacks at a sack rate of 7.31%, which wsa ranked 19th. This unit was approximately middle of the road among all league offensive lines in average time allowed to throw, at 3.0 seconds. While they weren’t exceptional in pocket time allowed, they improved from the 2024 season, reducing the sacks allowed compared to 50 sacks allowed the previous season.
As for the run game they were certainly solid but inconsistent at times. While there was a clear upgrade in protection for Jayden Daniels and company, via fewer sacks/pressures, the run blocking remained a work in progress – they were functional enough to create a few explosive moments but they didn’t generate nearly enough to help the passing game. Washington enters the season with what looks to be very good bookend tackles in Laremy Tunsil and Josh Conerly Jr. but the interior looks questionable beyond right guard Samuel Cosmi, which will be covered more in a later column. Today, let’s take a look at Washington’s offensive tackle depth.
LT Laremy Tunsil: 6’5” / 313 lbs, age 31
- Experience: 11-year career primarily as a tackle with 139 total career starts and 125 of those as a tackle with 14 starts at guard coming in his rookie season.
- Rundown: Washington signed him to a two-year, $60.2 million extension in March 2026, making him the highest-paid offensive tackle in NFL history at over $30 million per season. The extension was earned as he allowed 2 sacks off 15 total pressures (total of 802 offensive snaps) ranking him among the top left tackles in the game. Tunsil was key to the run offense averaging 4.7 yards per carry and averaging 134.7 yards per game rushing.
RT Josh Conerly Jr.: 6’4” / 315 lbs, age 22
- Experience: 1-year career; started all 17 games at right tackle.
- Rundown: His rookie season with Washington was a “tale of two halves,” defined by a rough early transition followed by significant late-season development. Starting all 17 games at right tackle, he was the only Washington offensive lineman to play every offensive snap. In his first 8 games played (total 504 offensive snaps) he allowed 6 sacks off 29 total pressures compared to 2 sacks off 15 total pressures in his last 9 games (total 550 offensive snaps). This is a clear positive progression proving him to be a cornerstone piece on the offensive line.
T Andrew Wylie: 6’5” / 304 lbs, age 31
- Experience: 8-year career with time split between guard and tackle. In 93 total career starts, 40 starts were at guard and 53 as tackle.
- Rundown: He started the first five games of the season at right guard while incumbent starter Sam Cosmi recovered from an ACL injury. For the remainder of the season, he served as the primary backup at both tackle and guard positions, providing critical depth during a season marked by offensive line inconsistency. In a total of 362 (194 snaps in pass protection) offensive snaps Wylie allowed 9 total pressures and 1 sack. He was still inconsistent on running downs as he often struggled against elite physical defenders and lacked the consistent power to move defenders in the run game.
T Trenton Scott: 6’5” / 320 lbs, age 32
- Experience: 8-year career primarily as a tackle with 26 total career starts and 19 of those as a tackle.
- Rundown: He had 3 starts and played in a total of 8 games (82 total offensive snaps) he allowed 2 total pressures and 0 sacks. His steady improvement and ability to play multiple positions across the line was a key factor in Washington’s decision to re-sign him for the 2026 season.
T Foster Sarell: 6’6” / 322 lbs, age 27
- Experience: 4-year career primarily as a tackle, with4 career starts.
- Rundown: An undrafted free agent who spent first 2 seasons on the Los Angelos Chargers practice squad and started 1 game last season for Washington. According to his scouting report, Sarell has above average foot technique and often finds himself in bad position when engaging in his blocks. Strong and low coming out of his stance plus effective in short-yardage situations but will play too stiff and gets his pad level too high. Entering his fifth season there will be hope Sarell can grow into a stable and reliable depth piece for the team.
T Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu: 6’5” / 325 lbs, age 26
- Experience: 1-year with the Baltimore and appeared in 2 games on special teams
- Rundown: His scouting report summarizes his qualities – he has a wide frame, high athletic upside, and effective power in close quarters. Now he does have significant technical inconsistencies, including poor balance, high leverage, and sloppy hand usage.
