Training Camp – Week 5

August 25, 2025

By Noonefromtampa

Here’s a look at what happened in Week 5 Commanders training. Washington lost again to the Bengals on Monday, but the biggest news was the trade of Brian Robinson to San Francisco for a 6th round with Washington picking up $1.25 million of his $3.4 million in salary.

Roster Moves

Waived: CB Kevon Seymour (with injury settlement)

Signed: T George Fant, C Nick Harris

Injured Reserve: G Julian Good-Jones (after being waived injured)

Practices

Training camp practices are closed now, with the media only able to attend media sessions before or after practice, so there is less detailed news about how specific players are doing. The biggest questions now are about which players would practice during the last week of training camp before the final game and the inevitable roster reductions.

Brandon Coleman, who was out for several weeks with an injury, was back at practice.

Terry McLaurin, off the PUP list, did not practice but attended practices, watching from the sidelines.

Sam Cosmi and Noah Brown are still rehabbing and not yet practicing.

Marcus Mariota is still dealing with a Achilles tendinitis but should be ready and available week 1.

Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Trey Amos were limited in practice and will likely be held out of the last game.

Ravens Game

Washington was outplayed in every phase of the game by Baltimore, as indicated by the 30-3 final score. While the Commanders held out 32 of their better players in the game, the remaining one looked overmatched during the game. Washington’s biggest highlight of the game was a 52-yard completion from Sam Hartman to Colson Yankoff.

Highlights:

  • Hartman had a whole half to showcase why he should remain with the team and responded by having two turnovers that led to 10 points for the Ravens, including a pick 6. Unfortunately, Josh Joshnson did not look much better.
  • Chris Rodriguez carried 5 times for 34 yards and 6.8 yards per carry average. I don’t think Robinson will be missed much if Rodriguez can play like this during the regular season.
  • While Yankoff had the big play, Ben Sinnott did not see a target in the game and finished the preseason with little fanfare.
  • Luke McCaffrey caught 5 passes on 5 targets but only gained 23 yards. Interestingly he played while Jaylin Lane was held out of the game.
  • Chris Moore could not catch the 50-50 ball deep down the left sideline in the first quarter. Moore, Michael Gallup, and K.J. Osborn have not shown they are anymore outstanding than rookie/first-year players Ja’Corey Brooks, Tay Martin, and Jacoby Jones.
  • Ale Kaho had 7 combined tackles again in this game, but does that give him any advantage over drafted players Jordan Magee and Kain Medrano?
  • Tyler Owens and Ben Nikkel were flying around the field filling holes and covering players. Safety must be the deepest group on this team.
  • The special teams unit committed several penalties again this week and that must be corrected before the week 1 game against the Giants.

What’s Next

53-man roster deadline 4:00pm, Tuesday, August 27th

The coaching staff and front office will have a lot of easy decisions and a few hard ones to make before Tuesday afternoon.

  • Do you trade McLaurin and go with Deebo Samuel as the number one wide receiver?
  • If you do trade McLaurin, do you add another veteran wide receiver to what would be a very young wide receiver room?
  • I think the third quarterback is not on this team right now, but where do they come from, trade, waiver wire?
  • How many of the young wide receivers make the 53-man roster? Which ones do you take the risk of the waiver wire to add to the practice squad?
  • Which of the young linebackers are going to be kept to backup Von Miller, Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu?
