EDITOR’S NOTE:

For those of you who have not yet seen what the new jerseys look like:

———————-

Washington made the following announcement regarding the team name this morning:

It’s Commanders

A big bowl of ok. Vanilla ice cream on the desk. A safe choice that shocks no one and excites less then no one. It’s not a  bad name, don’t get me wrong.

The logo isn’t terrible, they just updated the W from the last year, it feels uninspired.  It looks good on the helmet though, so I give them a point for that.

They put the logo on the front of the Black Helmet.. WTF is that???

The uniforms are exactly what I feared. Nike has no idea what looks tough, they are obsessive about fad patterns for some stupid reason. It’s like a dang soccer uniform. Nike took the worst element of everything nike does and put it all on one team.

All three jerseys look nothing alike. Zero uniformity, thats the biggest issue off the bat, these could be 3 different teams.

Nike hates good clean Jersey numbers. The number are awful on the white away jersey with a diamond fade pattern is truly terrible, someone should feel shame wearing that. The burgundy uniforms numbers would almost work if they had no white outline.

The gray, is the only one with decent numbers, where the outline is easy to see. But I don’t see much else to like about this alternate. Everything else about that one is trash. camo trim (as a rule I’m never a fan) 3 different logos, on it, way too much going on with that uniform, feels like a low end IFL team.

The home uniform isn’t terrible. A classic sleeve stripe, there’s something to work with there when Nike inevitably re-designs the uniforms in 5 years. The name on the front is a bit big, but that’s the only real issue I see with it.

It would be nice if they copped that over all design in the white away uniforms. That diamond pattern thing makes zero sense, it looks like UNC or Temple’s college uniforms.

Nothing about them ties to one another, one is retro , the other a modern diamonds design that will look out of date in about 3 years.  Nike is obsessed with fade patterns and these diamond things, just look at the Arizona baseball team. One is burgundy and gold, the other maroon and black (Jim Zorn was predicting the future).

It looks like the pants options are nothing special, just burgundy and black, I didn’t see any white pants or gold pants in the announcement video.

Overall here’s my grades.

I give the name a C
The logo a B
The home jersey a B
Away  an F
Gray jersey a F
