Offseason Moves & Mock Draft

April 28, 2021

By Noonefromtampa

In this post, I’ll look at the Washington Football Team’s free agency moves versus the suggestions I made and my mock selections for the upcoming draft.

Free Agency Summary

The table below shows the player (with annual dollars) I picked as faux GM, the actual team they signed with actual dollars per year and lastly the players that the Washington Football Team front office signed during free agency and their annual average contract amount.

Let’s review the moves that I recommended:

Position Noone’s Player Noone’s $ Actual Team Actual $
G Brandon Scherff $14M WFT $18M
CB Ronald Darby $8M Broncos $10M
LB Kevin Pierre-Louis $3M Texans $3.5M
TE Dan Arnold $1.5M Panthers $3M
WR Keelan Cole $4M Jets $5.5M
FS Tre Boston $6M none
    $36.5M   $40M

The moves made by the WFT front office:

Position WFT Player WFT $
G Brandon Scherff $18M
CB William Jackson III $13.5M
LB David Mayo $5.5M
TE Sammie Reyes $660K
WR Curtis Samuel $11.5M
QB Ryan Fitzpatrick $10.4M
    $59.6M

While I recommended re-signing three of their own free agents, Washington was only able to retain Scherff on his franchise tag. Jackson and Samuel represent significant upgrades (with associated greater costs) over Darby and Cole. The major difference was the signing of Ryan Fitzpatrick to a one-year deal to man the quarterback position.

Synopsis

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and Christian Darrisaw were off the board before pick 19, so I elected to trade back and take Trevon Moehrig, Jamin Davis or Zaven Collins. Collins was the only of those three players left at pick 28. I was able to use the trade back to generate extra picks in the 3rd, 5th and 7th rounds.

Overall, in the draft I was able to address linebacker, wide receiver, offensive line, quarterback and safety positions, while getting some possible depth players in later rounds.

Feel free to voice your praise or condemnations in the comments. I fully expect to have gotten zero picks correct in my mock which will only be one less than I did in free agency.
