[EDITOR’S NOTE: The interview below was conducted by Derrick Lee, a twelve year old soon-to-be seventh grader from Staten Island, New York.  Derrick has been a die-hard Redskins fan since his first youth football team shared its nickname with our favorite NFL club.  Derrick hopes to become a sports journalist someday, and the Redskins PR staff was gracious enough to arrange an email interview between Derrick and second year wide receiver Cam Sims.  What follows is the transcript of that interview.  If you enjoy this piece, please send Derrick some encouraging words on Instagram: @dlee_1599.]

Derrick: After having practiced with each of the team’s QBs, in which ways would you compare them?

Cam Sims: Both of them have great strength.  Put the ball right where it need to be.  To me, all of them [are] great and could be playing week one.

Derrick: Could you discuss the differences between Matt Cavanaugh’s system vs Kevin O’Connell’s system?  Is one more difficult than the others?

Cam Sims: No, pretty much all the same.  Yeah, it pretty much all the same for real.

Derrick: The Redskins have accumulated many players from the University of Alabama over the last few years, does the front office have a particular relationship with the Alabama coaching staff?

Cam Sims: I guess so if so I just hope they add some more so we can be a whole ‘nother Alabama locker room.

Derrick: What is the biggest thing you learned playing for a school like Alabama?

Cam Sims: To be a pro.  Just come out every day, ready to work, and wanting to work.

Derrick: Biggest strength as a player?

Cam Sims: My size and hands.

Derrick: Is there a wide receiver past or present that you model your game after?

Cam Sims: I try to learn from each receiver.  Like Julio [Jones], Dez [Bryant], Deandre Hopkins.  I mean, I just try to make one thing out of each person’s game and put it in mine.

Derrick:   Prefer man-to-man or [zone] coverage?

Cam Sims: Zone’s easier, but I like man.  So, it doesn’t really matter to me.

Derrick:  Too many preseason games? Would you change it?

Cam Sims:  Would I change it?  Yeah.  But it is too many?  Nah.

Derrick: Which divisional opponent would you consider to be the Redskins’ biggest rival?

Cam Sims: Either the Eagles or the Cowboys.

Derrick: Because of all the attention being paid to players suffering from concussions around the league, is that something that you think about taking the field?

Cam Sims: Nah.  I go into each game, pray to God and I just put it all in his hands.

Derrick: How surprised were you when you were not drafted coming out of Alabama in 2018?

Cam Sims: I wasn’t surprised, just because of the stats I had at Alabama.  But that just pushed me to work harder.

Derrick: After your injury, did you feel like “Oh, no, not again.”

Cam Sims: Of course.  I mean, when somebody gets hurt, that’s the first thing that crosses their mind.  But that just made me work even harder.
