2025 Season Predictions – Spicy and Mild

September 2, 2025

By Noonefromtampa

I decided to do sommething new this year. I’m going to make bold and not so bold predictions about the upcoming season (and bonus – I can have a review column next January, planning ahead).

Prediction 1 – Washington will win less games in 2025 than 2024

I would put this one in the mild category. The Commanders face a harder schedule, and teams won’t be surprised by Jayden Daniels abilities. Also, the team won several close games late in the fourth quarter, and the law of averages tells us that this will go up and down over seasons.

Prediction 2 – Washington will make the playoffs in 2025

(Mild) Washington, despite winning less games, the Commanders still make the playoffs. Washington is likely to be one of the best teams in the NFC and barring any player complications (never use the i-word) should be extending their season in January.

Prediction 3 – Three Washington rookies will make the NFL All-Rookie team in 2025

(Spicy) Josh Conerly, Trey Amos and Jaylin Lane have looked like they will contribute greatly to the team this season.  I’m predicting that all three have outstanding seasons on offense and defense and that therefore they are all selected to this honor.

Prediction 4 – Washington breaks the franchise single season scoring record

(Spicy) Washington set their single season scoring record in 1983 (great season, not so great Super Bowl) with 541 points. Washington’s next best season was 2024 with 485 points with Daniels at the helm. The Commanders should have an improved offensive line and a number of excellent skill position players, so this goal is within reach.

Prediction 5 – Terry McLaurin breaks his own franchise record for receiving touchdowns

(Spicy) McLaurin broke and set the record last season with 13 receiving touchdowns which was held jointly by Ricky Sanders (1988), Jerry Smith (1967), Charley Taylor (1966) and Hugh Taylor (1952) at 12 touchdowns. This will be very hard to do with the strong connection Daniels has with tight end Zach Ertz and the developing one with wide receiver Deebo Samuel.

Prediction 6 – Jacory Croskey-Merritt will lead the team in rushing yards

(Spicy) Croskey-Merritt, who goes by Bill, is behind Chris Rodriguez and Austin Ekeler on the depth chart. He will have to show some strong running skills and be able to pick up blitzes to get enough carries for this to happen. He does have the one-cut and gone type speed that could lead to long runs this season.

Prediction 7 – The Washington defense will finish the season ranked in the top 10

(Mild) The questions are how good or bad will the Commanders’ pass rush be and can they stop the run against teams like the Eagles? Washington added a lot of talent to the defensive side of the ball, signing Javon Kinlaw, Von Miller, Jacob Martin, Deatrich Wise and Eddie Goldman, while drafting Trey Amos. They have a lot of veteran leadership with Bobby Wagner and Miller, plus the secondary could be the best it has been in years with Marshon Lattimore, Amos, Mike Sainristil, Quan Martin and Will Harris.

Prediction 8 – Mike Sainristil and Trey Amos will have a pick 6 this season

(Mild) With a healthy Lattimore locking down his man, opposing quarterbacks will have to look at other options. This will give Sainristil and Amos more opportunities to make plays and both will come through.

Bonus (Spicy) One of the pick 6’s will give the Commanders a win late in the fourth quarter of a game.
