2025 NFC East Preview
July 18, 2025

Will 2025 be the year that the NFC East sees a repeat champion with the Eagles, or can the Commanders or Cowboys displace them? How good or bad with the Giants be in 2025? These are some of the questions we will attempt to answer in this column.
BetMGM has released their over/under win totals for 2025 and here is how the NFC East ranks:
- Eagles 11.5 wins
- Commanders 9.5 wins
- Cowboys 7.5 wins
- Giants 5.5 wins
The oddsmakers figure the teams finish in the same order as last year. The biggest thing they cannot predict is injuries – in the NFL, the healthiest or least injured teams, typically fair the best when counting victories at the end of the season. The 2024 Cowboys are a prime example of this, with a number of injuries that derailed their season.
I won’t recap the Commanders since we have a plethora of articles on this site covering the roster moves and offseason changes.
Eagles
The majority of the Eagles roster returns with a few key losses, including guard Mekhi Becton, edge Josh Sweat, DT Milton Williams and safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson. To offset those losses, they drafted linebacker Jihaad Campbell, safety Andrew Mukuba and DT Ty Robinson. The Eagles have done a very good job of letting players go as they age and replacing them with good young players.
The biggest staff change was losing offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to becoming head coach of the Saints. Passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo was promoted to fill the vacancy. There should not be much changes in the Eagles performance and will be the team to beat in the division.
Cowboys
The Cowboys fired head coach Mike McCarthy and defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, while promoting offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to head coach. Former Bears head coach Matt Eberflus takes over at defensive coordinator. Outstanding guard Zack Martin retired and the Cowboys drafted Tyler Booker in the first round to replace him.
Overall, the Cowboys still have a fairly talented roster on paper, but a number of players are coming back from injuries, including quarterback Dak Prescott, DT Sam Williams, LB DeMarvion Overshown and CB Trevon Diggs. There is a chance Overshown and Diggs will not be available at the start of the season.
The Cowboys season really depends on three things: whether they can avoid the injuries that have plagued them in recent years, whether George Pickens be an adequate complement to CeeDee Lamb, and whether the defense can gel quickly under Eberflus’ direction.
Giants
The Giants declined to make significant changes to staff, after winning only 9 games in two seasons, but did make a major change at quarterback. Daniel Jones was replaced with Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston; plus, they also drafted Jaxson Dart.
The Giants defense should be outstanding thanks to the addition of Abdul Carter through the draft, but the big question is how well the offense will perform this year. With the same coaching staff in place, I expect the offense to be about as good as in prior years, which is why their win total is so low. The Giants will have one of the best defensive lines in the league but that won’t be enough to pull them out of the cellar.
Conclusions
The Eagles will remain the odds-on favorite to win the NFC East and be the first repeat champion since they did it in 2004. The Cowboys and Commanders will need to show they can stop the Eagles defensively which is something they were unable to do in 2024. Washington’s offense should be even more prolific this season but will the Dallas return to form with a healthy Prescott at the helm. Giants fans can dream that Dart will come in and perform like Jayden Daniels did for the Commanders, but alas that will only be a dream and not the reality of their season.
