Best of the Best

I saw one of those challenges on social media where you have to build a roster, picking the best person at each position but with the caveat that you can only pick one player from any one team. So, following that idea, we’re going to pick the best player for every offensive and defensive position, plus best special teams players with the same no repeat from a team theme.

What does that roster look like?  My selections are below:

Position Starter Noone’s Player Ranking
QB  Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs Number 1 quarterback
RB  Saquon Barkley, Eagles Number 1 running back
WR  Ja’Marr Chase, Bengals Number 1 wide receiver
WR  Justin Jefferson, Vikings Number 2 wide receiver
WR  Terry McLaurin, Commanders Number 7 wide receiver
TE  Brock Bowers, Raiders Number 2 tight end
LT  Tristan Wirfs, Buccaneers Number 1 left tackle
LG  Quenton Nelson, Colts Number 4 guard
C  Drew Dalman, Bears Number 5 center
RG  Chris Lindstrom, Falcons Number 1 guard
RT  Penei Sewell, Lions Number 1 right tackle
EDGE  T.J. Watt, Steelers Number 2 edge
IDL  Dexter Lawrence, Giants Number 2 interior defensive line
IDL  Quinnen Williams, Jets Number 3 interior defensive line
EDGE  Myles Garrett, Browns Number 1 edge
LB  Fred Warner, 49ers Number 1 linebacker
LB  Micah Parsons, Cowboys Number 2 linebacker
CB  Patrick Surtain, Broncos Number 2 cornerback
S  Kyle Hamilton, Ravens Number 2 safety
S  Xavier McKinney, Packers Number 7 safety
Slot CB  Garrett Williams, Cardinals Number 2 slot corner
CB  Derek Stingley, Texans Number 3 cornerback
LS J.J. Jansen, Panthers Number 6 long snapper
P Logan Cooke, Jaguars Number 2 punter
K Jason Sanders, Dolphins Number 5 kicker

Try and do this yourself, because it is not an easy thing to do. When you pick a player like Barkley you eliminate other really good players such as A.J. Brown, Lane Johnson, Zack Braun and Jalen Carter. For a couple of positions I had to deep into the best players for a position list to find a player for a team that didn’t already have a player on the list. Most positions I was able to get a player who ranked in the top three (at least according to me).

For the special teams positions, I was pretty much left with picking from teams in the bottom half of the league.

Rams fans may complain of McLaurin over Puka Nacua, but nobody pulls in contested catches at a better rate than Terry. With Jayden Daniels at quarterback, McLaurin has one of his best years ever.
