2025 Position Group Breakdown – Safeties
June 24, 2025
By Noonefromtampa
Background
The big change in this position group is that Jeremy Chinn signed a 2-year deal with the Raiders for over $16 million. Will Harris was signed from the Saints on a 2-year deal worth $6 million.
Darrick Forrest who fell out of favor with the new coaching staff signed with the Bills. The Commanders return a large number of players from last season, so there should be some continuity and ability to build on last season.

Thoughts
Will Harris was used by the Lions and Saints in ways similar to the ways in which Chinn was used in Washington’s defensive scheme last season. He doesn’t have the same large physical presence as Chinn but is a more economical option.
Quan Martin, who played hurt most of the year, has developed into a quality starter and had a pick six in the Lions playoff game. Percy Butler is in the last year of his rookie contract and shown himself to be a capable backup.
Jeremy Reaves plays mostly on special teams and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2022 for his play in that capacity.
The coaching staff was very high on Hampton and Owens last year, but they will need to prove themselves again in training camp this year. The team also signed a couple of new undrafted free agents, Rucker and McDaniel, who will have to do the same.
