Redskins Position Group Breakdown: Offensive Tackle

May 24, 2018

by Jamual Forrest

Washington’s offensive line was nearly a 10-man rotation, if not more, in 2017. The Redskins had one of the highest number of different combinations at the offensive line position group. One of the staples of the Jay Gruden and OL coach Bill Callahan era was in flux for virtually the entire 2017 season. The best hope for the success of this offense is to have an injury-free offensive line this season, especially at the offensive tackle position with veterans Morgan Moses and Trent Williams. Williams and Moses are top ten tackles at their respective sides. Trent is considered a top five offensive tackle by most, if not top three, and his health situation severely hampered the Redskins in 2017. Morgan Moses, who battled through a multitude of injuries, still managed to play all 16 games.

The Redskins were able to retain veteran Ty Nsekhe this offseason, a d draft another swing-tackle in Geron Christian Sr. Christian (21), who was considered by the Redskins to be one of the better and most versatile offensive tackles in the draft this year. Washington drafted him to play a critical reserve role given the injury history of the Redskins offensive lineman and eventually a starting role in the future, or time as a tight end serving as an extra offensive lineman on the field.

Overall, this position group is in good standing, but depth is the area of concern, and the Redskins worked to address that this off-season. T.J. Clemmings is another tackle for the Redskins who had seen action in six games for Washington, including two as a starter. Due to the nature of the position, it is likely a team does not keep that many offensive lineman, but there’s a very good chance that Clemmings makes the roster towards the end of training camp due to the versatility of some players amongst the lineman. Keeping four offensive tackles is a very good possibility, but it’s time to wait and see how things play out.

    • Four years of studying the position should really help him out.

He has the tools to be a solid corner, and for the most part, when he stepped in for Bree the last couple of years, there was not much drop off.

I think Dunbar is why they let Bree and his mental health issues go, despite the fact that they could have kept him for cheap.

(Hopefully Moreau is a second reason.)

  • Doug Baldwin on anthem business: “Look, we’re trying to do something good for the communities that we represent, that represent us,’ and it just felt like again, there was a lack of understanding. To me, this just further punctuates the tone-deafness or the disconnect between the NFL and its players.”

Look. If you are trying to do something for your community, get to know some cops, get in a squad car, go into the neighborhoods where cop hate and cop fear are worst, and say to people, Hey, I know this officer. He wants to protect your neighborhoods. You have to be willing to work with him/her.

Also, talk to these cops about why they are hated, how they are seen, how they can talk to people with respect, what they can do to change the negative perception, and so on.

Use your “platform” as a celebrity athlete to build bridges between the communities and the police. Because really, that’s the only thing that’s going to start to fix this problem.

Kneeling during the national anthem is only driving a wedge between people, insulting first responders and soldiers, and adding more fuel to the fire of people who already think negatively about these athletes.

Sounds like he’s [RG3] got his head screwed on right.

Problem is that none of his other parts screw in right….

    • If he really has his head screwed on right, good luck to RG. But that doesn’t mean I still won’t be annoyed that he couldn’t get his head screwed on right during the time he was in DC.

The fact that he got himself all dolled up like a Ravens Superhero, per the article/pic, suggests to me that he may have new words, but he’s the same old RG.

For his sake, and his fans’ sake, I hope I’m wrong.

  • I just saw the poll…. Didn’t we draft Trent’s replacement this year?

Once Christian develops, slide TW inside, and boom…. Best OL in da league!

    • Yea man…that’s how their minds work.

      • Doesn’t matter. You were a Target team member and from now on you wear a red top and khaki bottom.

        • They’ve been upgrading and renovating their stores around here. Pretty swank. Not depart store swanky, but for a Target….

          Nicer product lines too.

          • Target was always the nicer comp to Kmart and Walmart

they also had rules that made it feel “better”
rules about overstock on the shelves above the aisles
rules about max price point merch on endcaps, especially facing the main aisle
rules about pallets on the floor during store hours (banned)
rules about not doing drugs and having improper sexual contact with the sporting goods boat* hot chick who was clearly out of your league but still turned up the flirtation to 11 when you were in the stock room with her making insinuations but you knew she was evil and was really just teasing you

*the boats are the glass-case-lined areas in a department with registers, so… sporting goods (think about where the guns are sold at walmart/kmart), jewelry, electronics… all have “boats”

  • ‘Inboxes everywhere are experiencing a flash flood of emails with the arrival of privacy policy updates and requests to opt-in to various forms of data collection.

This is happening because companies have until May 25 to be compliant with a new law called the General Data Protection
Regulation (GDPR), which is only in effect in the European Union. However, the internet doesn’t have easily recognizable borders. So, it’s having an impact in the United States as well. If a company collects the personal data of EU citizens, even if the company is not based in the EU, it must adhere to the new stipulations. Additionally, some companies like Microsoft are explicitly granting the protections the GDPR offers to users around the globe.

To grossly simplify it, the GDPR is about the management of digital privacy. The law has been called one of the world’s strongest protections for digital privacy rights. It’s also been called “staggeringly complex.” Withoutwading into the muck, there are two tenets of the law that are the primary cause of those emails you’re getting. They were neatly
summarized in a report by The New York Times: “The first is that companies need your consent to collect your data… The
second is that you should be required to share only data that is necessary to make their services work.”

There’s actually a lot to this. Look up GDPR.

  • Anybody else have to agree to terms of use this morning?

  • They are collecting our data, now with our premission.

  • Was yesterday update privacy policy day? I’ve got a a mess of them in my email.

    NERD ALERT

James Mangold is writing and will direct a Star Wars stand-alone movie centered on Boba Fett, the feared bounty hunter and fan-favorite character, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned.

    • Meh. So long as Kathleen Kennedy is running the franchise….

You watch, Boba will end up saved by some woman. Instead of a bounty hunter, he’ll be some kind of feminist.

      • HA! Never

        • I dunno man.

All the new Star Wars stuff is female-centric. Rey in Stars Wars, Jyn in Rogue One. Now it’ looking like we’re getting a Han that’s not a man’s man but a feminist beating off to the idea a man which is one who is okay rubbing up against another man.

Kathleen Kennedy has fucked the franchise up with her politically driven gender agenda.

It’s one thing when it’s organic. Say like…Thelma and Louise. But when it’s forced, it’s distracting.

    • Sounds good to me

    • pass

what needs to happen is right before that movie comes out, there’s some contrived thing where Fett is killed at the beginning of DP3.

Tampa has bad history of kids with expensive cars or motorcycles getting into accidents and hurting/killing people

    one incident I remember

  • Sorry not sorry…you give your 17 year old kid a Mustang GT, you should be going to jail with them when they’ve committed vehicular homicide.

Any vehicle vs a person is a losing situation for the person. But god damn…you’ve got to know better than you kid.

    • I believe you are right . Thats why i had mine at that age in a wore out Ford Ranger .

      • and he still found a way to tear that up, but he didnt hurt anybody else .

      • Good call.

I live an area where parents of driving aged teens seem to not know the words ‘are you fucking kidding me?’ and give them what the kid wants. It’s mostly new cars they’re in. $40,000+ German sedans, SUVs, and sports cars. Regardless of price though, the cars they drive are just way out of the league of a novice driver.

Every now and then they get the parents hand me down. High end sedans or SUVs. Already paid for or not, it’s still way too much car for a teen.

I get wanting to dote on your kid, but…they’ve got to sensible about it.

      • That was my first car Buck

        • …or truck I should say

        • Real barn burner huh ? I thought it was perfect for him at the time . He had started duck hunting and he had a floating blind , etc etc . He tore it up in the ice and snow . Totaled it . Knucklehead . Pissed me off

        • My first car was stupid for my age. A used 88′ RX-7 SE. I never wrecked her…but, the financial commitment I made to it at 17 was mostly stupid as fuck as payments, insurance, gas…tied me up at a time when all I wanted to do was hit the road and find a good time every where I went.

I was working at a car dealer back then. It showed up as a trade in. When I was getting it cleaned up for sale…that was it. I was hooked.

          • 1982 4door Buick LeSabre, with a big ass dent in the rear quarter panel. $800

          • velvet seats

          • Or velure, velveteen, whatever, yes.

          • Thats a great car for a beginning driver . Safe , but i bet it could take out road cones , signs , and anything else you thought about running over . I know you did that shit .

          • I actually never wrecked that car. I overheated it and blew a head gasket, ended up scrapping it. At that age, I was willing to put in the work, but didn’t know how to maintain a vehicle.

          • I don’t know why but running over orange cones and signs and BS was a big thrill .

          • I hit a fold out barricade on purpose once, man was that stupid.

          • I think you just made your own original point . You paid for it and the insurance .

          • 17…with the means. Nobody could tell me a damn thing. Before that car, my biggest financial commitment was dropping quarters into video games.

          • Can’t nobody tell you anything now , ha. I wasn’t responsible enough at 17 to do that so i gotta give it to you . I had a 67 mustang that my pops got for me and i totaled that. I was embarrassed and ashamed for years after that . I felt terrible . I would give my left nut to have that car right now .

          • Pfft. You country folk tell me shit all the time that I hadn’t previously considered. So ha yourself!

I feel ya on that. Before I bought a car, I was borrowing cars. That is, anyone that left their keys out before they went to bed….

one night, in my aunt’s car, coming back from sneaking into the girlfriend’s house while her parents were asleep so we could be horny teens…I put that car up into the woods on a wet road. The car wasn’t totaled, but it had plenty of damage to the front end that it had to be in the shop a while.

Man, I felt like such a fuck for that. My aunt was always good to me. And there I was, ‘borrowing’ her car.

          • I bet you never did it again . You have to actually feel remorse for your actions and that is missing in the kids we were originally referring to.

          • I’ve pushed a few down the driveway and down the street before vi started them. Came home one night and was getting ready to crawl back in the window… AMBUSH! My Pop had been standing out in the yard, back in a shadow, waiting for me to come home.

          • Yea. I know how that goes. But I wasn’t ambushed. After being gone for hours, got back with my grandpa’s car…

            the lights were on.

I mean fuck. What do you do except think of the dumbest god damn thing your stupid brain can spit out to say when you walk in the house to a look that just flat locks you up?

          • “Billy (your best friend) broke up with Susie cause he was fucking Mandy (your girl) and I was just sitting in the car at our (you and Mandy’s) favorite overlook……….(if the look doesn’t change add) contemplating suicide.”

My dad would laugh out loud at that story, then beat my ass, lol

          • What I said was…

‘Her dad was beating on her for talking to me on the phone’

Which wow, what a fucked up thing to say to try and get out of trouble.

          • The things we’re capable of…

  • Those causeways in Tampa/St Pete/Clearwater….

everyone of them is there so you can routinely beat your best high speed pass. Bayside Bridge…I loved hauling me some ass on that stretch. Make a pass too check it for traffic and po-po. exit, get back on and just…go.

          • not at all. If he did then the Russians didnt , but you say they did .

          • Obama ordered the detainment and expulsion of thirty-five Russian ‘diplomats’. While he was at it, he had two Russian spy centers in the US seized.

            That happened man.

          • what did he do that stopped the Russians from manipulating the election , that they manipulated anyway ? yes and he also told Putin to “knock it off “

          • Different_Cat

The FBI contacted election officials across the country under Obama. He was in a bit of a quandary when it came to addressing the situation publicly. Trump was already pretending that the election was rigged against him. What do you think would have happened if Obama had come out in the weeks leading up to the election and said that Putin was covertly working to help Trump win? Trump and the Republicans would have lost their tiny minds.

Instead, Comey comes out and dredges up Hillary’s e-mail for no good reason.

          • What does that say about the competency of the then current administration? “Theoretically speaking”
Boogerhooked? Can you say it out loud?

Isn’t the big black dude he hugs (after dropping the N word) Jonathan Martin?

    • Hard to tell…it’s possible.

      • I’ve not seen Martin with that style of facial hair, though.

        • Squinnsamania, brother!

Martin doesn’t even have any hair on his balls (Steve, based on conversations we had yesterday(grilling, microwaved pizza and bacon, lawnmowing, etc.), you may have difficulty understanding the impact of that comment (FYI, just having fun)).

I am 99% sure it’s him. Also, in the tape, when Incognito gets close to the camera and the douche asking him to be the best man at his wedding, the black dude puts his arm up and “blocks off” Incognito. Who else could get away with that? Also, at the end, the black dude and Incognito are hugging it out and the black dude is actually bigger than Incognito.

I would put 100 on it.

By all accounts, the dude was a mental mess growing up but was making headway. The Jonathan Martin situation had him branded by ESPN and Adam Shefter as a racist and a bully before it turned out that was not the case and Martin and Incognito texted each other like that all the time before Martin quit. The guy definitely could play and was reported to be a great locker room guy. I saw some footage of him ranting in a bar and it was a little worrisome but also a little funny to me. He was shooting in a safe direction, well away from any traffic, structures, or pedestrian traffic. never used it, but it probably works

          • I know what they are, just never used them. If I really need to start something early, I can start them under lights on a table in the basement. Had a small greenhouse for awhile. You can throw up a stick frame and put Visqueen (or equivalent) on it if you’re in a hurry, the sunlight comes through fine, lasts about 2 years if it’s tight and you use battens.

I always try to be nice to cops that’s why I’ve only gotten 2 tickets in 45 years despite all the traffic stops

I only gotten angry with a cop once and it was here in Tampa and he was a super dick right off the bat and the issue he had was because he was not paying attention to his driving — neither of us what happy after that traffic stop but I got no ticket

on the other hand I have had cops try to set me up to get my butt kicked, stalk me trying to give me a ticket and try to goad me into a fight

  • It’s that BLT sammich time of year. Yum.

  • Sweet, gonna have to look at my schedule and plan my trip to Richmond. Will try not to go 100 MPH when driving down 301 this time.

Let me tell you, when you start getting close to 100 MPH in a Mazda 2, that thin rattles like the rockets from the Apollo missions

    • My worse incident of mouthing off to a cop occurred on 301 to Richmond in some po-dunk town halfway there. I was only going something like 5-10 mph over the speed limit, but I had a sports car at the time, so I got stopped. I asked the cop, “what are you hicks going to do with my tax donation?”

I assume if I hadn’t been white, that probably wouldn’t have ended well for me.

Twitch is back with another TV marathon-streaming stunt: More than 500 classic “Doctor Who” episodes will be broadcast on the Amazon-owned service over a seven-week span.

The “Doctor Who” episodes from 26 seasons — going back to the show’s inception in 1963 until 1989 — will be available on Twitch starting May 29 at 11 a.m. PT.
    ===================================

That’s interesting, but what the hell is Twitch?

How many streaming services can they expect a person to subscribe to?

so you can pay $120/mo for all the channels on cable

or $120/mo for 12 different streaming services, really what’s the difference

Playing the Star Spangled Banner at sporting events basically started as a promotional gimmick during WW1 in 1918

Eagles’ Chris Long knocks NFL anthem policy: ‘This is not patriotism’

    • Chris Long is entitled to his flawed opinion.

      • walter_in_fallschurch

        as are you.

the start of nfl games, or sporting events in general, should not be a referendum on players’ “patriotism”. and, of course, there is a wide range of opinions over what constitutes patriotism.

if the national anthem must be televised, keep them all in the locker room.

        • The NFL doesn’t have to consult with players before it makes decisions as to the logistics of their TV show. They can play the national anthem for whatever reason they want, even if that reason is to improve the TV product, and they can mandate that the teams need to go along with it. The NFL never really said that they are doing this for patriotic reasons. Goodell just said that they think everyone should stand.

The flaw in Long’s thought process, and for that matter all of the players who don’t like this (there were a bunch of them on Golic & Wingo this morning) is that the NFL doesn’t need to consult them at all. The players are just employees – key employees, but employees nonetheless – and unless it’s a collectively bargained issue, then the NFLPA can whine all it wants, but the NFL is entitled to do what they see fit regarding the presentation of the product.

The NFL owners would be fools to put on a TV entertainment product in which they let the participants use it as a platform to advocate for their personal causes. That’s one of the reasons for all of the existing restrictions on what players can wear and say during games.

The idea that this is some sort of constitutional first amendment issue is just flat-out inaccurate.

The problem with the new policy is that this just leaves the door open for more problems. The NFL should’ve followed the NBA’s lead and just said that everybody needs to be on the field and standing, period, like it or not; or, in the alternative, just leave the teams in their locker rooms until it’s over. This is yet another attempt by the NFL to make everyone happy, and it will instead result in more unnecessary controversy.

      • Different_Cat

Service members on a U.S. nuclear-missile base in Wyoming took LSD and experienced mind-blowing acid trips, Air Force records obtained by the Associated Press show. The airmen, who were entrusted with guarding nuclear missiles, were among those who bought, distributed, and used LSD and other mind-altering illegal drugs as part of a ring that operated undetected for months on a highly secure military base in Wyoming in 2016.
    ============================================
well at least the offensive behavior took place off-duty

    • They’ll soon be former service members.

          • I’ve spent time at basically all of them in some capacity of another, and I personally found F.E. Warren (which is the one in Wyoming) worse, but the two in North Dakota (Minot and Grand Forks) are bad, too.

          • My best friends dad was stationed at Minot for something like 15 years. Hated it. And I’ve heard this kind of drug use there was really common.

          • 15 years? Was he enlisted?

          • I’m just guessing at the 15 years, I know it was a long time there, most of his career. He was an officer, one of the guys with the key to turn on the nukes according to his son.

          • Usually officers can’t homestead that long, but enlisted sometimes can. That’s why I asked.

          • I just know it was his last post and where he spent the bulk of his time. He’s a nuclear safety inspector now, and has been as long as I’ve known him.

          • The only officers who can get away with that are usually in a small career field and have to essentially accept the fact that their promotions are going to be capped at a certain level. That’s a long time.

          • Yeah, I don’t know off hand what rank he retired at.

      • Yeah, looks like a racer or a rat snake. But still, you don’t want a 3 foot black snake hanging out on your door.

        • That one needs to meet the working end of a big shovel, too.

          • Really it’s harmless, I’d really get a rake or something like that, pull it off the door and push it into some woods or something.

          • Or just, pick it up

          • Even though rat snakes aren’t poison, they are aggressive if you try and grab them. Best to just use a stick or something to push it away.

          • Few years back I had a ridiculously large one in my yard up in the Adirondacks I almost grabbed it thinking it was a hose, then I noted that it had a head. thing turned to try and bite me. so I jumped back and just let it be, it scurried away a few minutes later.

          • Ehh. The strikes can be alarming, but…it’s not all that. No worse than a cat claw. They settle down quick enough.

          • Frankly i am impressed how it’s able to get up that high on the door to start with.

          • I’ve seen them scale stucco walls. If there’s a lizard or frog to be had, those snakes are gonna make a go at it.

          • A snake like that would become a corpse if it showed up on my door. No thanks.

          • Oh come on. You might as well go after a butterfly.

          • You do your house and I’ll do mine.

          • No it doesn’t. They’re harmless. It’d sooner vanish into the woodline than have anything to do with you.

Do you go getting your shovel whenever you see a frog?

          • Why do you care so much if I kill a snake?

          • You can’t just kill something that’s not capable of harming you just because you can’t rationalize to leave it alone, and, me not say something about or, God looking at you like wtf is your problem.

Yea. Never thought about how there’s a score being kept. Didja.

So if your going to accuse a police officer of doing something bad, you should at least make sure they are not wearing a body cam.
    ============================================================
An allegation that a white Texas state trooper sexually assaulted a black woman last weekend in Waxahachie went viral on social media.

But after the Department of Public Safety published the full body-cam video of the incident, Sherita Dixon-Cole’s attorney, Lee Merritt, apologized online and said that the trooper in question had been “falsely accused.”

The allegations, which the DPS denied Sunday evening, were amplified on social media by Merritt and social activist and journalist Shaun King, who wrote that Cole had been “kidnapped and raped” in posts that were widely shared and re-tweeted from his Facebook and Twitter accounts. He also alleged in an article he wrote for BlackAmericaWeb.com that Hubbard threatened to kill her fiancé if she said anything.

King has since deleted his social media posts about the incident. He did not immediately respond to email and text requests for comment.

Two years ago, the NFL ordered Belichick to stop having players practice in numberless jerseys, as he had been doing in Organized Team Activities. So now Belichick has players wearing numbers in OTAs. But many Patriots are wearing numbers that they won’t wear when the season starts.

All of the Patriots’ draft picks are currently practicing with numbers in the 50s. Undrafted rookies are wearing numbers in the 60s and 70s.

  • From Keim:

Alex Smith has a much different vibe in practice than we’re used to seeing under Cousins. That’s not better or worse, just different. During these workouts, Cousins used to sprint downfield after a big play to celebrate with his receivers. Smith returns to the huddle. He’s noticeable only because of the position he plays. He really just blends in, but every guy has their own style. This is Smith. But I think it will work here and be well-received in the locker room.

    • Different_Cat

“Smith rubs some tussin on his back and wraps himself tightly in a warm shawl.”

    • Awwwww maaaan…. – high-five party

    • “The coach I love watching always will be Jim Tomsula with the defensive linemen. I wish more coaches did this, but he will hammer home certain fundamentals until a player gets it right – even if it means taking more reps. That’s what he did with rookie Tim Settle Wednesday, honing in on his footwork vs. certain actions by the interior of the offensive line. He had him do it over and over and over – and then he had Stacy McGee show him the proper technique. If you attend training camp and want an education, watch Tomsula and his group. And you can see his teaching when they get on the field. You still need talent so coaching can’t overcome all. But a young line with some talent plus Tomsula should be able to produce.”
