None of these guys will get big contracts and we might not even want to resign all of them.

I think as far as draft goes I’d grab DL at 1…..RB in 2…..then 4-7 you just try and pick guys who make your special teams better…maybe a project QB like Benkart or someone of that ilk. I think we can also get a WR, ILB, and maybe another DL and OG in FA.

  • Ya’ll have to understand…you need PLAYMAKERS on your team…a PLAYMAKER is a player that you have to game plan for….a true difference maker. You had to game plan for DeSean Jackson. We have too many “projects” at WR. Need a DOG!

They will target Logan. How did he do last year? And is he closing in on 30? I feel like we love signing guys 28-30….expecting them to do what they did when they were 24-26….2 years too late.

  • why would we want Robinson? KC did just fine with the wideouts he had and Alex is so much better he doesn’t need anyone else. Focus on the lines, and backers please

  • Dun broked

JP Finley was tweeting last night that he believe the Skins will be quite aggressive in FA this (based on his conversations with Jay and Doug). Not Albert Haynesworth aggressive, but aggressive.

More Day 1 type signings, than day 4/5 signings.

Team priorities right now, in order, in my opinion:

    1) OG
    2) ILB
    3) RB
    4) WR
    5) DL
    ____________________

I agree that those are the top needs. I would re-order them as follows:

    1) DL
    2) RB
    3) OG
    4) ILB
    5) WR

Stop the run; run the ball.

    • i agree with the second order. run and stop the run. especially when you actually pay attention to our division

  • I think we go hard after Robinson from The Jaguars in FA’s.

  • Josh RosenSquinns

Wonder what Sammy will get in FA. First time he had a decent QB last year, he did well.

  • Watkins…does bong rips and gets philosophical

Report: Rams will not tag Sammy Watkins

  • Time to redo TW and RKerrigan and create some space and extend some folks

  • Bad Reputation

They are going to have a choice of 4-5 really good players if those QBs all go before 13. Allen, Darnold, Rosen, Mayfield….Then you got Barkley, Bradley Chubb, Nelson…who does that leave? Roquan, Trumaine, Vita, Josh Jackson, Minkah…..

    • Tremaine

      • I think one might go there even if Brown signs a defacto 2-3 year deal.

        • I’d love to have my Hokie, wouldn’t complain even if everyone else does.

          • though it should only be a tie-breaker, it prob helps to have a guy from either VT, UVA, MD, or PSU in the mix.

I followed Neb obviously, and a lot of their middling draftees get picked up by KC or Denver, so it’s not like most teams don’t consider it. Prob also, lazy scouting.

          • Maybe that’s where Shanny picked up the habit?

          • probably there’s still some “knowing the coach”, just like college coaches get to know the high school coaches

  • The only way I see the Skins taking an RB in the 1st is 1), Barkley falls in their laps (0.0% chance) or they trade down an have two firsts (3% chance).

  • For those who want to take a rb in the first
Ziggy Hood would still be playing a prominent role on your DL

How are you gonna stop the run and get a pass rush

I get that rb is a need but DL is greater to me

    • RB isn’t my top priority. But it would be nice to get that fixed.

So if the FO does something like RB in the 1st, DT in the 2nd…I won’t shake my fist.

      • Different_Cat

I think we should draft a RB, but this draft has great depth at the position so I wouldn’t go there in round 1.

    • Team priorities right now, in order, in my opinion:

      1) OG
      2) ILB
      3) RB
      4) WR
      5) DL

I would be thrilled if they drafted a running back in round one. It is one of the critical needs on the team. It all just depends on who is available at

    • no doubt about it BTG! Anyone who doesn’t see that isn’t paying attention to our division rivals.

  • Cowgirls have another $9M of dead Romo contract to eat this year. Nyuk-nyuk-nyuk.

  • Whatever we do come FA. I hope they don’t throw stupid money at someone just to get them signed. Stay steady.

I’m hearing that free agent Kirk Cousins has not ruled out any teams (despite the chatter). He’s keeping all options open. There’s still ample time to survey the landscape and find a new home. So, the Jets are still very much a viable destination. #NYJets

    • Bout right….

    • Blah blah blah

      Spare us already

      • Bad Reputation

He won’t end up with more than he got last year as far as annual salary.

        • What I’m saying is…

          daily speculation…spare us.

He’s not going to be a Redskin. Why are we following a story about a dude who dicked us over? Fuck that guy.

          • Bad Reputation

OK, I am still interested in how it all plays out. I am sure others are as well. It’ll all be over soon enough.

          • It’s like, being interested in who your ex is banging this week.

            It’s not healthy man!

          • walter_in_fallschurch

yes, it’s not healthy… but it’s hard not to.

    • wait, I thought the Vikings were about to drop a 3 year 92 mil deal (all g’d) on the table?

  • walter_in_fallschurch

does the “tampering” rule only apply to free agents? i mean, the skins already made a trade.

    • Who knows at this point. We’ve got trades on paper that everyone is aware of. And yet, teams can’t talk about them. So stupid.

    • tampering is involved when a player under contract is contacted by another team without the current team being involved.

it sure seems like either the Skins gave Cousins permission to talk, or there’s some gray-area tampering going on.

  • One more week til FA and some clarity…

Im guessing Denver is pitching the Eagles for Foles trade.

  • So Charlie Casserly likes the idea of Guice at 13 also…or Chubb in the 4th.

    BTG insults incoming …?? SMH

    • some people love love Guice

my claim is that he probably has the highest floor of any of the RBs. but obviously not the ceiling that Barkley has. but when I fake mock, I usually have two second or like four picks between 2nd and 3rd rounds so I always take him if he’s there in the 2nd. not sure I do that if one doesn’t get a few more solid picks on a trade back (doesn’t look like they are going to trade a current player and they get zero comp picks this year)

      • Floor ceiling….To me thats just guessing games. Skins are in a pickle if they are eyeing RB early. Trade back and pick up pick and still get Guice would be ideal for sure.

Like I said yesterday if they go w RB early somewhat of a reach w Guice isnt all that bad. But if James there too cant pass on him imo

    • walter_in_fallschurch

      how do you pronounce “guice”?

      like juice? geese? gweese? goochay?

  • walter_in_fallschurch

noting corruption and crimes by our government = knitting, i guess.

  • Derwin James had a pretty darn good combine. This guy keeps rising and may not make it to 13.

Bama had some super fast DBs. Wonder anybody could throw on them.

  • So many corners in the draft…the FO should be able to find a return man in UDFA.

    • call me crazy but I’d rather have an undrafted free agent wide receiver returning my kicks than a defensive back

      • Good hands and speed. Ability to find lanes and cut.

But again, there are a shit-ton of DBs. Find someone who secures the ball and get him on the roster.

    • ??

    • There’s like 90+ DBs in this draft

    • homer alert

I still think Joshua Kalu would be a good developmental pickup in the 6th-UDFA rounds as a FS/slot corner. 3 years at corner, 1 at S in college. still learning S. ST / Sub. Didn’t run a great 40 time, but showed explosion with his vert and broad.

      • Bring him in to hurdle would-be tacklers?

        • that’s be funny to watch a DB / ST player hurdle the guy with the ball. might cause enough confusion for the cleanup man to cause a fumble

  • Bad Reputation

So a week from tomorrow FA starts. Wonder who we target day 1? Allen Robinson….Benny Logan….Isiah Crowell…..Carlos Hyde…

Think America is tired of a bunch of preening self absorbed elitists patting themselves on the back and telling everyone about their far out lefty wacko politics?

    • Biggest bunch of hypocrites on the face of the earth . Shutting it down , later .

      • Fun fact. Hypocrite – from the Greek word “hypokrites” means “actor”.

Rich elites, modeling rich elite clothing, at a rich elite get-together, open only to specially invited rich elites…trying to pawn themselves off as people-champions for equality, inclusion and diversity. Actors indeed.

    • Just like I couldn’t care less about NFL players political points of view, I couldn’t care less about actors point of of view either. Problem is they’ve got much more of a public forum to display their beliefs and sway the sheeple of America

    • part of it is that there’s too much to watch, and more and more I think people are less enamored with individual actors since so many good shows the breadth and depth of actors have been increased by the big internet content provider’s original shows.

  • Nothing like a bunch of political preening and squawking to shut down the conversation.

speaking of playing that funky music, last saturday night, my wife and i and about 8 other friends went to a concert by “super fly disco” at the state theater. to be clear, i was a “disco sucks” guy back in the day. however, for this, we all dressed in 70s garb. i had a mostly-unbuttoned silk sort of patterned shirt and a giant, gaudy chain necklace, awful white belt, aviator glasses, bell-bottoms and silly sort of 70s hat. all the wives were out scouring thrift stores for this stuff for weeks before the show. others were similarly costumed. it was a crazy fun night. just so silly.

      • Cocaine?

        • walter_in_fallschurch

i asked my wife, to no avail, to try to find a gaudy chain necklace with a tiny cocaine spoon (for up my nose, as frank would say).

          • Probably somewhere like Spencer’s would have it, maybe. You’d need some cocaine, though, for up your nose.

          • walter_in_fallschurch

not that i’m admitting to anything, but i always felt, from seeing friends do it, like that was the least cost-efficient way of getting high.

          • Depends on where you live. Our area, yeah. South Florida, well…..

  • Back to the good ol daysBruce

Crossing fingers Barkley doesn’t end up a NYG. More reason to pick DL at #13 if that occurs. NFC east appears to be back on top based on talent alone.

    Ready for FA now.

  • walter_in_fallschurch

of his roughly 400 days in office, trump-the-president (and his giant entourage) has spent roughly 100 days at trump-the-resort-owner’s resorts – while we all prate on and on about morality, russian meddling, global standing and national security and blah, blah, blah…. trump’s laughing all the way to the bank.

to quote the insightful navin johnson: “it’s a profit deal.”

    • He was laughing all the way to the bank long before he was President…

My guess is that his brand has taken more of a hit now than if he would have stayed away… but that’s just a guess.

      • walter_in_fallschurch

i firmly believe he did not expect, or want, to win the election. it’s much easier taking pot-shots from outside than actually doing the job.

        • Oh I totally believe he wanted to win.

I’m not sure your last line is exclusive to him… it applies to EVERYONE… including you, which is what you are doing.

          • By the way that’s not a criticism… that’s just a fact of life for ANY Prez… half the country takes pot shots while not actually doing the job.

          • I don’t think he thought he could win, or that he wanted to. He wanted the attention, and to parlay it into business opportunities afterwards.

          • You’re not an exactly impartial judge…

        • I don’t believe that . The guy campaigned his ass off. You don’t do that if you don’t want to win.

          • Back to the good ol daysBruce

Yup. And Clinton outspent dude like 50:1 (I’m exaggerating). He was stomping hard. Will go down as one of if not THE biggest upset in modern politics.

          • walter_in_fallschurch

            buck,
sure, he campaigned hard, with all his bloviating nonsense (“build a wall”, for example) about things he never thought he’d have to answer for.

do you think he will build a wall?

    • Back to the good ol daysBruce

I understand it appears questionable when he spends time at his own properties but I just don’t care as much as others. That has little to do wth his ability to execute the office of the President. And I’m not even a fan.

You always have a way of changing the argument. For the record, there is no evidence that Cousins wanted to be overpaid. He was under valued by his front office. He knew it and the front office knew it. They never offered him a serious deal. He didn’t believe in them and they didn’t believe in him. He said “they’re evaluating me and I’m evaluating them”. That says it all.
    ——————
How is someone who was franchised TWICE undervalued? Dude refused to negotiate after franchise tag when the entire point is to at least negotiate. He didn’t want to be here or at least felt like going on a “show me some love tour” before choosing a team. Those are the facts.

    • You have to know by now facts don’t work with that crew

    • Yep, as Doug Williams said, if you don’t make a counter offer you aren’t negotiating. We know from Kirk’s own mouth that his ultimate goal was to hit FA and determine his own destiny. If another team offered him $30M a year he was never going to stay here for $29.9999M

    • walter_in_fallschurch

kirk simply did not want to play here. that’s it. that’s a wrap. nothing left to discuss.

  • Buck got sucked in…

    • yeah he did . weak moment .

      • Nah, you just hit the mud hole for ole’ time’s sake.

        • Ha . Sitting here reminiscing about my buddy and those games at Fed Ex . He got kicked out one time for fighting in the men’s room because the guy was wearing a cowboys jacket . Luckily security came to my seat and notified me or I wouldn’t have known where in the hell he was at . he was usually in rare form by the time we got to the stadium , much less a little tailgating .

          • shoved the guy up into the urinal. Can’t imagine why the guy hit him .

          • Piss on that turd, HA!

          • Right !!

          • Of course he had smoked a half a bag of weed and drank 12 beers all before noon . It was an adventure

          • That can get you rowdy

          • Yeah and he’s still doing it too and he’s the same age as me. It’s starting to show and he has made some terrible decisions in life because of it . Guy has a degree from William and Mary and he doesn’t have a pot to piss in . I still love him though , but I don’t know why .

          • That coulda been me… had I kept drinking

          • I understand . He never stopped . That was his main focus . He was/ is very smart and can draw and paint fantastically . IDK , he has nothing really . No wife or kids , not that’s a measure of a man but it’s lonely .

          • Probably a result of behavior and priorities

          • That’s exactly why that is . My wife didn’t want him around and it was a sticky situation for me . He always ended up on our couch for the night , hammered . That gets old for a woman quick.

If we re-sign Brown, Breeland, and Murphy, not to mention Galette, we’re not going to have jack to spend on other team’s FAs.
    ___________________________________________________________________
    We need a WR…and NOT a “project”….a BEAST

    • There’s nobody like that in free agency, and we couldn’t afford them anyway. We’ll have to look to the draft to find someone.

  • Most people say I look like Stephon Marbury…even got free drinks off it back when the NBA All Star game was in DC in ’01…

    …true story

  • Is it me, or is the limo driver in Die Hard the spitting image of Rick back in the day?

  • Lets just see what Gruden can do with Alex Smith and let the chips fall where they may . Arguing KC what if’s is a waste of time now . I’m just as guilty as anybody .

    • Smith is a very good QB. If the team doesn’t win it won’t be his fault.

      • IDK , he’s old and they gave up too much but that’s another conversation . If they win , I won’t care . Typical fan , I am . ha ha

        • You’re a good fan and fair.

          • My buddy who I was referring to earlier …..I thought he was going to actually cry when it became clear they had officially moved on from KC . He was devastated . I can’t take it as seriously as he does .

          • The team had no choice but to move on from Cousins. They made the right move for the team and Smith is a very good QB. If they stay healthy and bring in a few key pieces that could end up being very good this year.

    • It’s a good thing I don’t shoot myself every damn time someone starts talking who’s after him and what money they’re offering. There wouldn’t be enough of me left by now to put another round in.

  • Different_Cat

    https://twitter.com/BurgundyBlog/status/970796171361996802

That’s why we had to move on from Cousins. Not because he can’t play, but because he’s not worth the money he was going to command.

    • Some idiot on here told me I was out of my mind because I heard he was getting a 3 year offer. I believe his exact words were… “sure, or some shit you heard about 3 years.”

That guy is a fucking moron.

    • Good for Minny, and good for Kurt. Not our issue now.

  • Alex Smith’s playoff record is what exactly ? One out of six ? Is that correct ?

  • Hope…

I think Cousins is the reason for whatever success the team had, as well as it’s shortcomings.

    • Not the 21 different O line combinations or 6 different RB’s , no Jordan Reed , no number one WR , last place defense , bad ST’s play , on and on.

      • …and with ALL that Kirk gets a pass and the best deal in NFL history, yet some want Jay Gruden and Bruce Allen fired.

        • Who is he getting a pass from ? I don’t understand . I don’t want Gruden fired . He can’t control money and contractual issues . He did the right thing by whatever role he played in moving on.

        • …and with all of that we should have paid Kirk his ransom whereby all of those shortcomings would not have been corrected due to sinking all of our cash into one player.

          • I didn’t say that . Nowhere have I said that . I see way more positives than short comings but it doesn’t matter .

          • I’m just saying we couldn’t afford him with the other needs you listed above.

        • no, some say Alex Smith would have taken us to the Superbowl with that same team. Smh

    • I think the team was snake bit with injuries last year and Cousins had nothing to do with that. I think Pryor was an epic fail and Cousins had nothing to do with that. I think Crowder had a case of the dropsies both with receiving and punt returns for the first half of the year and Cousins had nothing to do with that.

      • Different_Cat

Before all that we had 9 and 8 wins with Cousins.

        • Yes, back to back winning seasons for the first time in how many years???

          • Different_Cat

Great. We were lucky to make the playoffs one of those years, and didn’t go anywhere when we got there.

          • But we had a defense that couldn’t stop anyone from scoring and a running game that sucked… of course though in your mind it all falls on Cousins shoulders. Perhaps you fail to remember the missed field goal against the Bengals and the fumble by Jones at the goal line into the end zone that would have won the Lions game for us? Those two fails were the difference between 10-6 and 8-7-1 but of course it’s all Cousins to you.

        • and the defense was still ranked near the bottom and we had no running game. Same repetitive argument that I shouldn’t have allowed myself to get sucked into yet again. That’s on me .

          • Different_Cat

Yeah, I know. I think we could have won with Cousins with a better cast around him. But it’s hard to put a better cast around him when he wants over $30M a year.

          • I agree with that . Don’t know how other teams would do it either

  • HTTR65…

I don’t think the Redskins can afford to spend any more big money on the O-line with Scherff’s deal coming up.

  • Rick’s FA list

    1 top WR
    1 top run stuffing DT

    ….and I’m straight.

  • The Redskins need 1 or 2 upper tier FA’s…talent wins, and talent costs.

    • I thought all you needed was a better QB?

      • Do you love Kirk or are you IN love with Kirk?

        • What? People questioning you’re faulty logic brings out the snark in you? Answer the question. You think Cousins was the reason this team failed to win play-off games. Now we have a better QB in your opinion, so now you need to add more parts? Which is it? You can win with just one QB that’s great or you need talent?

          • Different_Cat

It’s not a binary equation. We need a better QB AND better pieces around him.

          • I submit we had a QB that was playing at a high level with very little talent around him. But I know that’s the minority opinion here. Doesn’t bother me. Smith will need a solid team around him to win games, like every other QB in the league. If we fix the running game and the defense, get better receivers, and maybe a kick returner, we’ll be a very good team.

          • Different_Cat

I don’t disagree. The problem wasn’t Cousins’ play, but his desire to be overpayed.

          • You always have a way of changing the argument.

Skins have 49 mill approx spending room.
    _____________

    …before the Smith trade.

  • We have Macy’s money…not Saks money.

    • We’ll have a little over $30M (including Alex Smith) not including the rookies, so really more like $23-$24M. That’s before any cuts and is enough to sign a few good players.

      Yeah, Macy’s money.

      • Different_Cat

That’s before we re-sign ZB, Galette, Murphy, Breeland, etc., assuming we do. That could easily lop off $15 – $20 million, so we’re probably not going to be able to do much.

  • Here’s the beauty of the NFL…it’s not exact. It’s not like the NBA…there are so many variables to winning in the NFL. Kirk on the Vikings looks GREAT on paper and they are contenders, but you STILL have to play the games.

  • DeSean Jackson and Alex Smith would probably be “special”

  • The Redskins need this era’s version of Santana Moss.

  • Yes, it’s a TEAM game, but I like Doc Walker’s philosophy….”Those that get paid the most need to do the most”.

    • you mean like get an all the franchise records for QBs? Year after year after year

      • That…and starting the season off with wins and not telling the press that we’ll be on the same page by October”.

        • Be careful what you wish for, Alex Smith has never done anything big in the playoffs either. And he is always had a very good defense and rushing attack. Those are the facts!

          • Did you guys not read my Alex Smith column? He’s done well in the playoffs but for 1 game.

          • did he win the Superbowl did he get to the Super Bowl? Has he had a much better defense than Kirk? Of course he has has he had a much better rushing attack than Kirk of course he has

          • He’s 2-7….not good, but what’s Kirk’s record?

        • Maybe he’s telling the truth… remember neither Doctson or Pryor were making plays and Jordan Reed had a broken toe and couldn’t play at all… then Crowder played poorly the first 8 games. Of course the truth always hurts.

    • His name is Crowder. We have him here

  • Here’s why Alex Smith is better than Kirk Cousins….the “eye test”. He plays football…doesn’t seem to “think” as much as Kirk.

    • I like Smith, too. I think they desperately need to bring in a speedy little guy to run the fly route and the deep out and up to help him out, and they need to go get a good every down RB.

      • Yup

      • We needed that last year as well. Since Smith passes the eye test he should be able to get it done with the same weapons KC had .

      • walter_in_fallschurch

well, that speedy “little” guy should be big guy terrell pryor. he is as fast as any of those little speedy guys. it’s so vexing how he just can’t quite, well, you know, catch the ball….

  • …but I will say this…without Kirk, we may have won 5 games last season.

    • With a better QB we might have won 10. We’ll never know.

      • With all those injuries and last place defense . If you say so .

      • Steve, I often agree with you on many things. I can’t disagree more with you on this point.

        • Well, they lost to the Saints in overtime and were with the Chiefs late in the two. Two winnable games, right there. All I’m saying is that I like Cousins and thought they should’ve handled the entire situation better, but he wasn’t ever a “carry a team” type of QB.

          • Hate to tell you this but Cousins carried a very bad team on his back for three long years and put up some of the best QB numbers in the league while doing so.

          • and the team that Alex Smith will be running it will be better than any that Kirk has had. sheerly by all the injured coming back and another draft/ free agency period

          • I hope I’m wrong, but I think the facts prove that Alex Smith isn’t that guy either

  • Kirk Cousins is 4-19 in games against teams with a winning record.

    ….4 wins…19 losses.

    • So are the rest of the Redskins . Once again a bottom dwelling defense and non existent run game .

    • Morton’s meet gaping wound

    • There’s no doubt that he hasn’t played well, for the most part, in games against better teams.

    • Kirk Cousins was literally on the worst team in the league his whole time as a starter.

      • What in the hell are you talking about? The Browns won ONE game in two years….C’mon man.

      • That isn’t true.

      • walter_in_fallschurch

come on, hope. i understand kirk was awesome and lifted a bad team to mediocre, but you are just nuts to think the skins were the worst team in the league w/o him. unless you’re joking, you lose credibility with nonsense like that.

Cooley said an agent told him Vikings offering Cuz 3Y/$91M fully g’teed.

    • BS… no effing way.

    • Without a playoff win

      • Nope…but they are ready to move on from Case Keenum…the one that brung em’ to the Championship game.

        • They should save their money, especially at that cost. They almost got to the Super Bowl and there’s no reason to invest that much to get there especially when a career backup almost got them there.

          • Because you know so much better than professional GM’s in the NFL… your years of experience building NFL franchises stands out here.

          • I like you Hope and agree with most of what you say on this blog, but your love for Cousins is blinding your true judgement of him.

      • Teams win games… no defense, no running game, a kicker who misses a 34 yarder at the end of overtime that would have won the game, no return game to speak of, etc, etc, etc. Saying Cousins all by himself never won a playoff game is downright idiotic. Put Cousins on the Vikings this past year and he might have won the SB.

      • Too much emphasis put on that when grading Cousins in my opinion . The defense has been among the leagues worst for several years and they can’t run the ball to save their ass.

        • Buck, too many peeps up here think cousin should be able to put the whole team on his back and Win Every Game regardless of that. Football is the ultimate team sport

          • I know . How about all the come from behind games he won ? Nobody wants to talk about those .

          • Aren’t franchise QBs paid this huge amount of money to put the team on their shoulders, at least the offensive side of the ball. I like Cousins and wish it would have worked out here.

    • I’m not buying that.

    • I’d accept that they might offer him $91M guaranteed at signing, but not in a 3 year deal. If that happened, I’d bet that it’s actually a 5 year deal and that’s the amount guaranteed at signing.

  • “Gladiator” was very liberal with it’s rendering of a Roman Legion’s superiority over the Teutonic tribes in Northern Germania.

  • The Redskins defense was dead last in the league in rushing yards allowed per game, and only four teams allowed more points per game. If the team drastically improves in those areas, finds a way to run the ball effectively, and gets some receivers who can separate and make tough catches, we could be a very good team this year.

    • those are some big if’s . I don’t look for it to happen . Too much would have to be done right in only one off season. Won’t happen but I agree that’s what needs to be done .

  • Heard Doug Williams answering questions… he said something like our running game averaged 1.4 yards a carry (I don’t think that’s actually right) and we would be foolish not to be looking at getting a better running back, then he also said we needed to invest in the D-line because we allowed 130 yards rushing a game. Hmmm run the ball better, stop the run. What a great idea.

  • FYI – Gus Ferrotte owns the longest TD pass in NFL history , with the Vikings .

    • I had a buddy , one of my best friends who is a Skins diehard as much as anybody I know. He and his girlfriend got a cat , he named it Gus . They split up and for whatever reason he couldn’t keep the damn thing for a couple weeks . Brought it to my house and begged me to keep it for a short while . Dropped it off with a bag of food. We had that cat for fifteen years . He never brought another bag of food either .

      • That’s some funny shit there Buck…

        • It’s one hundred percent true . Used to go to Fed Ex with him and he inevitably got in a fight with opposing fans . never failed , there was always Eagles or Dallas fans sitting near us . Whatever game it was at the time. He kept getting escorted out . Actual fights I am talking .

          • We went to the inaugural first ever game at Fed Ex together . It was against the Cardinals . I think he actually made it through that one.

          • Gus Ferrotte to Westbrook for the W.

          • We weren’t as accustomed to losing yet at that point like we are now . He couldn’t take it . Ate him alive .

          • You brought a cat to FedEx that got into fights with opposing teams fans? WOW!

          • I did . The dumbass got in a fight in the men’s bathroom with a guy in a Dallas Cowboys jacket .

  • Ha ha ha – Gus Ferrotte is on with BMitch and crew . Quite a bit thicker and grey .

    • Gus has been hittin’ Mickey D’s .

    • Quick Gus Frerotte story: I had a boss at Andrews AFB who was a huge cowboys fan. Boss was being reassigned to McGuire AFB, so we were looking for a good going away gift for him. Gus just happened to be signing autographs on base that week, so I went and bought a Redskins hat and had him sign it with the inscription “to Col. _______, the #1 Redskins fan!” and then gave it to him in front of about 100 people at his going away dinner.

  • I find it amazing that people actually want to make movies like Birdman and the fish-man movie that they know darn well aren’t going to make any money and that people aren’t going to go see in big numbers. What a waste of time.

    • Different_Cat

It’s art. If it’s good a lot of people will appreciate it, even if it doesn’t pull Star Wars numbers.

      • The funny thing is that I was an English major in college, so I can actually appreciate art, but movies like that are just unwatchable.

        • Different_Cat

As they say — beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I have haven’t seen Shape of Water but I hear it’s watchable.

          • Yea. That’s a good as any term for it. Watchable.

Nothing about it is remotely moving.

      • It’s shit and only left minded whackos will actually like it.

      • Back to the good ol daysBruce

Yea it’s still art. People forget that. Academy awards have quite an eclectic pallet when it comes to films that don’t always translate to the avg viewer. But I didn’t see any of that in bird man. Was horrible. I did make it thru the movie tho.

  • Back to the good ol daysBruce

Bird Man was probably one of the worse films in cinematic history.

  • on Howard Stern this morning I thought it was so funny they are making fun of the Oscars, and talking about how it’s a bunch of Jews giving other Jews gold LOL Howard isn’t as good as he used to be in my opinion but sometimes he’s hysterical

    • GTD isn’t a jew, he’s Spanish.

    • I permanently gave up Howard Stern about a month ago when he interviewed Jane Fonda and called her his hero. She’s scum who should’ve been executed, and I can’t listen to someone who thinks she’s a hero. He was tough to give up, but I haven’t gone back and don’t intend to.

      • you know, I feel you on that Mr Steve. I thought it was rather shocking and as a veteran It really Galls me. I guess his explanation of calling attention to an unjust War Find actress who was at the peak of her beauty and perhaps popularity took courage on her part. But I could see how it would give the enemy comfort and demoralize our troops

        • My dad had 800 combat hours over Vietnam. She entertained troops that were trying to kill him and posed for a photo in a AAA gun that very well might have shot at him. She can go to hell as far as I’m concerned.

          • you get no argument from me my friend.
Wars are usually fought over natural resources like land, oil and water. Tell me again why we were in Vietnam in the first place?

  • I honestly think that I’m not really the type of customer Hollywood cares about, and that’s why I find so many of these Oscar movies so bad.

  • Okay western I found on Netflix, made in Spain but dubbed to English. The Killer

  • Pretty cool new western is “the duel” with Clint Eastwood’s kid.

  • I like damn near any movie directed by Eastwood. When he’s up for an Oscar, I’ll hang out in the room and watch and wait for his category to be called.

    • He’s a great director, no doubt, and the fact that most his films go up for the Oscar shows as much.

  • 1990’s Revenge, with Costner…he doesn’t wear a cowboy hat. But he does wear Madeleine Stowe.

    Good western.

  • Last movie I saw was the true story of American soldiers on horseback in Afghanistan . Can’t even think of the name but it was good .

    • At the theatre with the reclining chairs .

      • Around here it’s Cinemark with the reclining lounge chairs.

        • Had to finance two drinks and a large popcorn but it was a good movie . The seats were shaking.

          • lol…only when the Mrs is along do I do a drink and popcorn. That shit is way too spendy at a theater.

      • Every Theater should have the reclining chairs. I also love the ones that are upgrading their food quality.

        • yeah , there is an actual pizza place connected with the theatre . you can get a pizza and beer if you want and take it inside the theatre .

          • That’s great. Went to one a while ago that had some amazing nachos, real nachos, with everything, not just fake cheese sauce.

          • Your tickets have assigned seats . You can do it all online ahead of time and just show the guy taking your tickets a confirmation number on your cell phone .

          • Why wouldn’t you want that every time you go to the movies.

          • Its pretty cool . Wife does it for us . If you go during the week its never crowded .

    • I saw that – I think it was called 12 Strong, maybe? Outstanding movie. That should’ve been the best picture winner.

      • That’s it . 12 Strong

      • Didn’t come out in time for this year’s show.

Don’t quote me. I believe the cut off is December 31st.

        • Correct.

        • Okay, but it wouldn’t win anyway – it’s a movie that makes the military look good. I’m not going to hold my breath waiting to see it on next year’s list.

          • Eastwood will probably get a nomination for his movie about the train. But not best picture, I can tell from the previews that it wasn’t shot well.

          • I haven’t seen that one yet, but I intend to.

          • Because he used real people I could see them using that as reason to give him best Director, Hollywood loves that kind of thing.

    • 12 strong I think is the name.

  • I’ll also give the Academy The Dark Knight – great movie and Heath Ledger was amazing, and I generally dislike Superhero movies. Titanic was also good. Rocky = great. But off that top of my head, at least, without looking, I can’t think of any other major award winning movies that I’ve see and thought were great. I’m sure there are a few more.

    • Did Saving Private Ryan win anything? That was great. Apollo 13 was great; I think that won.

      • Yes they both did win best pic.

        • Just checked. Saving Private Ryan didn’t win, of course, but it was awar movie that was complimentary of the military. A ponderously artsy movie won that year, Shakespeare in Love, which I saw and thought was terrible.

          • Sorry they both won best director.

There’s a “rule” that you can almost never win both, best pic and best director.

          • it does happened, and happened yesterday I believe. But I think only 1 in 10 does or something like that.

    • Going through the last ten
Moonlight and Spotlight I didn’t see, not my kind of films.
      Birdman was great.
12 years a slave is a tough one to watch but still a really good film
      Argo, excelent
The Artist, won for a gimmick
      Kings speech, good
      Hurtlocker, overrated
      Slumdog , overrated
No Country for Old Men, probably the best of the list.

      • Never heard of Moonlight, Spotlight, Birdman, King’s Speech, Slumdog, The Artist, or No Country before awards season.

From what I saw/read of Birdman, it looked like one of the worst pieces of garbage ever put on film, up there with a film about a mute woman doing a fish-man.

        I liked Argo.

  • The last movie I can remember watching specifically because it won the best picture award was The English Patient. I rented that on DVD. It was one of the worst and most boring movies I’ve ever seen.

  • Rotisserie chicken , I have to come up with some fixin’s though . Hard being the house man sometimes .

  • So I threw Falcon Cam on one of my monitors. Scared the crap out of me when the falcon returned back to roost.

  • I think a good rule of thumb is to not waste time on movies that have been nominated for Academy Awards. There’ll be the odd one every once in awhile that’s worthwhile, but like I said, it’s a good rule of thumb.

  • Cian Fahey , whoever you are , Alex does not like you . Says you are a penis .

  • Fwiw, jay said Nicholson was in great shape, healthy and ready to go. #thankgod.

    • How long will that last ? Got to learn to get his head up and not to use it as a tackling tool .

      • In College it looks like he was fairly healthy and played: 12 games in 14, 14 games in 15, 11 games in 16. So hope it’s just a freak thing.

      • True that, and at free he should be able to protect himself just fine.

    • I’m interested in the Russia doesn’t want Romney, choose someone friendly to Russia for SoS story.

And the Jared Kushner using his position in the White House to get money for favors story….

Now I know what LeRib at a buffet feels like.

    • I’m interested in the real estate sales from Trump & Co. to Russians. Were they legit sales, or just money laundering?

      • Get a grip, man. That’s silly.

        • Says the birther.

          • I’m not a birther. I told you that it was a legitimate question to ask in the beginning on Obama’s campaign, but was subsequently cleared up.

          • It was never legitimate. But for sake of discussion, let’s say it was.

Because no, Trump’s business dealing and massive amount of debt in Russia, are not silly questions.

          • Sure it is. The entire Trump thing is just garbage invented by liberal media crusaders who can’t get over the fact that Hillary lost. I trust 0.00% of what the media says about it.

          • Different_Cat

Trump is overtly friendly to Putin, for no apparent reason. Trump has had a number of questionable business dealings and negotiations with Putin-connected figures. Trump refuses to release his tax returns. Trump’s campaign manager literally represented the interests of one of Putin’s major allies in the Ukrainian clusterfudge. Trump’s senior defense adviser was literally a foreign agent with Russian ties (and lied about it). Trump’s son met with a Putin-connected Russian lawyer seeking compromat on Hillary. Trump has been consistently wishy washy on Russian sanctions and refuses to even acknowledge Russian efforts to interfere in the campaign, let alone authorize countermeasures to prevent future interference.

I don’t know how anyone could bury his head so deep in the sand as to not see probable cause to conduct an investigation.

          • walter_in_fallschurch

trump has vilified everyone connected with the russia investigation except the russians.

          • It’s a bunch of lies and a witch hunt.

          • Putin does a graphic demonstrating blowing up Florida. Trump said nothing about it. Not one damn thing.

            But it’s a witch hunt?

          • Different_Cat

Wow. Everything I listed is purely factual.

          • Different_Cat

It could very well be that there’s no there, there, but it absolutely needs to be investigated.

  • @RapSheet
The #Rams are expected to apply the franchise tag to a player tomorrow. They are still undecided between WR Sammy Watkins and S Lamarcus Joyner. Tagging one means the other may test the market.

I want Watkins on the skins.
But since this is from Rap Sheet I’m guessing they don’t tag anyone.

BREAKING: Viewership for the Academy Awards plunged 20 percent from last year to a record-low 26.5 million.

For the exact same reasons that they are dropping for the NFL, 2 long, not entertaining like they used to be. And no one in the academy can explain what a catch is.

    • walter_in_fallschurch

the academy awards used to be entertaining?!

    • Different_Cat

I think it must be a problem that the most popular movies (SciFi and Super Hero) are rarely nominated for anything but obscure awards.

    • Too politicized anymore. It just is.

Although, even when it wasn’t….there’s only one person in the house who actually wants to watch it. And only because she want’s to see what people are wearing.

    • Most people don’t want to watch the ponderous, artsy dreck that gets nominated for awards anyway. I’d never even heard of most of the movies that got nominated this year. Throw in getting preached at about politics by a bunch of undereducated self-aggrandizing hollywood types and that’s a recipe for low ratings.

      • The winners mostly not the artsy dreck this year
        Shape of Water- Monster movie
        Dunkirk – War movie
        Blade Runner- Sci Fi
        Get Out- Horror
Darkest Hour- War Movie / Political movie
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri- Artsy

        • BTW if you didn’t see shape of water and Blade Runner, you are living your life wrong IMO, both were amazing.

          • There’s no way on god’s green earth that I’m going to waste a single moment of time on a ponderous artsy movie about a romance between a mute woman and a fish.

          • It wasn’t artsy at all.

          • You need your head examined if you don’t think that’s typical Oscar-worth artsy garbage.

          • A man gets his fingers bitten off. Not artsy.

          • I’ll mail you some medication for you to take.

          • It’s like saying Jaws or ET are artsy. The plot isn’t 20 pages of dialogue and a bunch of CGI for retards. But a well done film with a great script.

          • I can’t believe that you have the unmitigated gaul to actually argue that that movie isn’t crap. It deserves to be shunned just based on the dumb name alone.

          • Never heard of Shape of Water, Darkest Hour, or Three Billboards….. Blade Runner and Dunkirk? Okay, but did they win any real awards? Of course not. Get Out? Heard of it, know it was a hit, didn’t see it.

          • Cinematography is a big deal award. Anyone who knows anything knows that one.

          • Nobody but movie people care about that award. Best picture, best actor/actress, director, supporting actor/actress.

          • Actor/Actress are meaningless.
            They are garbage cans.

          • You’re a movie guy; I get it, and that’s fine. But regular movie goers? Nobody cares about most of these movies or the down ballot awards like cinematography.

          • All were very good. Shape would not be everyone’s cup of tea. Three billboards was my favorite of those nominated.

    • People don’t feel like being lectured on how they should live by the ultra rich . Hollywood doesn’t understand this , and will continue onward with their platform. It doesn’t have anything to do with Sci-Fi movies .

          • I watched it live when they were showing some of the players superimposed with Eisen. They’d give Eisen 5 or 6 yard start, then these guys would shoot past him. They showed this one guy in street clothes, start at same time. Eisen got 2-3 yard lead then this guy was catching him. It looked like Eisen then elbowed jo, and he fell at the finish. Hilarious. Don’t have a link

        • I couldn’t find a clip of it.

          • It was shown just after they showed Eisen’s run. They then put him on the screen with several others, including this one guy.

          • You both are probably correct.

          • Different_Cat

No, I don’t have it mixed up with donations to a charity. Big difference.

          • The Clinton Foundation is a charity in name only. It’s really a giant money laundering operation.

          • My issue with the Clinton Foundation is that even though they say the money gets to the locations, they don’t do a good enough job on oversight to see if it’s put to good use, this stems from a friend of mine who’s done a lot of work in Hati and says that many of those who get the money locally from their foundations, misuse it. They need to be more hands on.

          • BTW, as bad as the Clinton’s are about this, this guy’s told me worse about the Red Cross. He hates them with a passion.

It’s more likely that whoever he’s talking about just looked at something else. Cian knows his stuff but is extremely sensitive and tends to overreact. I doubt we’d invite him back, and if we did, I doubt he’d accept.

Eagles have fielded – not solicited – more than one inquiry and offer for Nick Foles. Eagles’ basic answer is it’s going to take more than the 1st and 4th round picks they got from Vikings for Sam Bradford. Foles is Super Bowl MVP and best insurance policy in NFL.

    • depending on what his contract really means, once the future years void his value really plummets and becomes zero after the 2018 trading deadline. the issue is that they’d need to trade him to an offense that Foles can do well in. The Jets would make sense. They have a high pick and could offer maybe a 3rd that converts to a 2nd depending on whatever in 2019.

  • If the Skins get a good/great RB in this draft, they need to start adding packages that move Chris Thompson to WR a few plays each game.

          • A team with a better shot at winning.
Even NFL base salaries rival that of predominant positions in say, corporate law, or the medical field. The money is there.

          • See I think this is a bad comp for Scamp, you have to make it a job he’s not good at to begin with. Like IT manager.

          • Because why? AJ McCarran hasn’t proven that he’s a bad QB.

          • He’s not proven he’s a good QB either.

          • This is his shot. Move on as a starter, or end up Colt McCoy. Cleveland is hardly a safe bet for a Quarterback to do anything but fade away, or become injured.

  • When do the kickers and punters participate in the combine?

Report: AJ McCarron is Hue Jackson’s preference at QB

    • Yeah they tried to trade for him last year now he is a FA so should be easier.

      • I don’t know about that… easier when you are the only one with an offer on the table… free agency can get awful bidding warish… especially when there are a lot of QB needy teams

  • Bad Reputation

Browns want McCarron. They will probably trade for him and still draft a guy to groom. 4 picks in the first 35 or something crazy. If they can’t improve their team then I don’t know what.

Surprisingly, a trusted league source told us today to expect the #Jaguars to keep Marqise Lee, NOT ARob

  • On Barkley:
If the Browns don’t grab him at #1, they would be idiots.

He’s going to be way more valuable at RB than any QB in this draft.

Ohio St. CB Denzel Ward: an unofficial 4.32.

  • Bring in Lerib to play lg

  • Folks have lost their minds

  • Taking a hyped big school guy at 13 with relatively low numbers, especially in the tackles for loss, and sack columns, regardless of a great combine, is a mistake, IMO.

  • Different_Cat

Josh Sitton is another FAOG we might consider. He’s 31 but he’s been consistently good for a long time. Probably has another 3-4 good years in him.

    • Sure. With our 36 year old QB. Let’s get back to making ourselves one of the older rosters in the league again.

FYI, Sitton will be 32 in June.

      • you can’t, especially down a 3rd round pick, address every need. FA is a must and defensive line help is paramount imo for myriad reasons.

    • I’ve said on the show that question whether the Redskins are going to spend big money on a FA guard when they have Williams and Moses on huge contracts, and Scherff is about to get one. I think it’s more likely that they try and draft one, for that reason.

  • Flound who’s the free agent guard you have in mind

  • Bad Reputation

Crowell, Logan, and Wilson or Richardson are the FAs that I’ve read we are interested in getting. I’d have to go back a few days to find the Tweets, but that’s what I’ve seen.

  • Flounder is right imo. Get a FA guard and draft DT first round.
If we end up signing Dontari Poe, maybe trade down a bit , hopefully acquiring a 3rd round pick and take best OG.

    • Bad Reputation

Benny Logan is who we might get.

    • Different_Cat

Panthers OG Andrew Norwell is a FA. He was PFF’s No. 3 OG last year (5 spots ahead of Scherff). But … he’ll cost over $10 million/yr.

    • A good guard is not going to be anywhere near the ballpark of cap friendly.

    • Josh RosenSquinns

I have been saying that, as the roster is currently constructed (which could change during FA), that we shouldn’t draft anything by DL first round. Allen’s presence was really missed when he went down. Strong D line play has a significant impact throughout the entire defense.

  • Bad Reputation

Albert Wilson from Chiefs is somebody we might sign on the cheap at WR. He was #1 in yards of separation. Plus Smith is familiar with him.

  • Different_Cat

My current thinking if we pick at 13 and these players are on the board:

    1. Vea
    2. RSmith
    3. DJames
    4. TEdmunds
    5. Guice
    6. Payne
    7. Hernandez/Wynn
    8. TBryan

  • Wow I more or less nailed my Oscar guesses for the ones I cared about (don’t care about actors)
Director, Picture, Cinematography, Sound, got them all right. Only thing I didn’t see coming was Shape of Water winning Score.

    • You saying that this is giving you confidence with your mocks in the draft?

      • Yes, yes it does.
When you are right about 1 thing you are gonna be right about all things. Just don’t trust my opinions when it comes to big power backs… they are my kriptonight.

Within, @SI_PeterKing has his top 10 and it doesn’t include Calvin Ridley. If he makes it to 13, the #Redskins better take him. Talked to a scout last night who just loves him. Complete receiver. Can come in and be a #1 on day 1.

      • Bad Reputation

I don’t think they should take a WR…but this dude knows a lot more than I do.

    • We have Dl (but can improve)
We have ILB (but can improve)
We’ve got WRs coming out the nose (but can improve)

      We don’t have a LG

Right and the best FA one will cost 11 million. I get it, I don’t see them going OG at 13.

  • walter_in_fallschurch

i remember when beathard was drafting and after the draft, i’d think, “who”? “they drafted those guys?!” then, over the next few years i’d see how beathard knew more that i did about drafting players. i hope THAT happens this year and for years to come.

Penn State TE Mike Gesicki is having a very rare combine performance:

Among all combine TEs starting in 2000, only Virgil Green and Vernon Davis have had a 40″+ vertical and 10’8″+ broad jump.

  • Payne and Hernandez both available at 13…

I’m tossing a coin, slamming a shot…and seeing what the coin lands on.

  • Shaquem Griffin. Football player.

    • Yeah I wouldn’t mind taking a flyer on that guy in the 5-6th round.

    • As much as I liked watching him at UCF, I’d been seeing him as skeptical at the pro-level. I figure the pro-game will make things a lot more difficult for him than what he faced in college.

But then I see how much he wants it and think, whatever the NFL throws at his feet, he’ll find a way to overcome it.

  • Any interest here?

Sheldon Richardson, DE/DT, Seahawks. Age: 27.
Sheldon Richardson is an extremely talented defensive lineman, playing very strongly in the pass rush and run defense. He can play in both the 4-3 and 3-4, so he should garner tons of interest if he gets to the open market.

  • If OG is your priority going into the draft, consider 2015. If we hadn’t taken Sherff with the 5th pick, the ginas would have with the 9th.

Should we so lucky as to find ourselves looking at Hernandez on the board at 13, you have to make that pick. If we don’t Dallas will at 19. Possibly the Ravens at 16 or the Seahawks at 18. Dallas though, you know their penchant for 1st round OL. And yea, they’re big on Hernandez. They already met him back at the Senior Bowl.

But look, with Nelson a top 5 and the 9er’s picking 9th and looking to protect their mega-contract QB…. is he even there at 13?

Either way, trading back means, not getting the guy you want and ending up having to scramble at making a decision on who’s still on the board. And well all know the FO isn’t good at scrambling.

    Make the pick at 13.

    • If they go Hernandez at 13 I’m fine with that

    • Different_Cat

I don’t think you ever go into the draft plotting to keep teams below you from taking a certain player. I mean, are you really thinking that you have to take a player at 13, because otherwise someone will grab him at 19? Because if that’s the case you’re overdrafting him at 13.

      • I’m not saying that. I’m saying, if we don’t make that pick, and risk he’s there after a trade…..

        we lose that gamble.

  • A lot of hand-wringing over draft priorities. The picture will be clearer when FA happens.

  • Ideally, you get a defensive lineman and an offensive lineman with the first two picks here’s where we really miss the third-rounder. use that for a wide receiver or running back but of course we don’t have one now!
But I like what flounder is saying about pick up a free agent left guard. To me then we take the best defensive lineman available at number 13 and a running back in the second round

  • I would use cap space on getting the best FA guard we can get, they’re a few very good ones that will be available.

  • If they stay at 13
    Vita
    Payne

If they move back slightly then get Hernandez

    • That’s where I am

    • Also, I would take a long look at Connor Williams, LT from Texas. Had a strong combine, and he’s versatile. Plug him in at LG and kick him out to LT if TWill goes down.

    From NFL Network:

Da’Ron Payne, DT, Alabama: The rock-solid run stopper opened eyes with a spectacular performance on the turf. The 6-foot-2, 311-pound plugger ran a 4.95-second 40 while also pumping out 27 reps on the bench press. In addition, Payne flashed better than anticipated movement skills in bag drills and the positional workout. Although the Alabama standout isn’t viewed as a high-end pass rusher, the movement skills he displayed on Sunday could make him a high-impact player as a pro.

Taven Bryan, DT, Florida: The 6-foot-4, 291-pound former Gator put on one of the most impressive performances that we’ve seen at the combine from a big-bodied defensive tackle. Bryan posted a 4.98-second 40-yard dash, 35-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-11-inch broad jump while also pushing out 30 reps on the bench press. He complemented his impressive athletic display with a strong performance in bag drills that confirmed his status as an elite athlete. Considering how teams covet ultra-athletic defensive tackles with active hands and dynamic movement skills, Bryan is quickly climbing the charts as a potential first-rounder.

  • The reason we didn’t talk more combine on this show is that we were recording this Saturday, late morning. We will probably give more combine thoughts next week.

  • The question to me is can you get an impact DL in the second
I think that you drop back a few spots and you grab Will Hernandez and then focus on DL in the second
Can Taven Bryan be impactful or one of the guys from NC State?

  • Dalvin Tomlinson/Bama was a 3rd round pick for the Giants last year and one of the upper echelon rookies in production/snaps per PFFs stats. Solid DL can be drafted in mid rounds…

    Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 13: Vea, Vita, DT, Washington (A)
Round 2 Pick 18 (DAL): Guice, Derrius, RB, LSU (A-)
Round 3 Pick 17 (DAL): Smith, Braden, OG, Auburn (A+)

Round 5 Pick 12: Kelly, Kameron, CB, San Diego State (A+)
Round 6 Pick 14: Morgan, Nyles, ILB, Notre Dame (B+)
Round 7 Pick 13: Chandler, Sean, FS, Temple (A+)
Round 7 Pick 23: Ogundeko, Ebenezer, DE/OLB, Tennessee State (A+)

  • in our division, the Eagles and Cowboys can run the ball very well and the Giants after probably taking Barkley. We need to fortify and have a ferocious defensive line to stop the run. You do not take a running back at 13 unless it’s Barkley,

    • Perhaps but Guice isnt a far cry from Barkley…imo. Depends on if homeruns matter I guess.

      • Football 101. Those with the best lines usually win. make our defensive line so strong that no one can Rush against us and we get plenty of pressure without having to Blitz all the time

  • Guice and Derwin James remain my top 2 choices at #13 or even in a small tradeback scenerio…

  • Mason Rudolph had trouble hitting his own WR in drills…how is that?

  • Mayfield without a doubt best QB in the draft. Lauletta and White and Rosen left a bit to be desired on deep throws.

  • BJ Hill would be a good target for the Skins if they pass on DL early. Climber according to Mayock and Dan Jeremiah..

  • Equanimous St Brown wont make it past 3rd round imo. Alan Lazard would be a safe WR pick later round

  • Sleeper RB next level…Justin Crawford WVa. Not the fastest guy but a quick cutter…

  • RB notes…Michel and Penny are quick cutters and fast but like I said a month ago not sure about their breaking tackles next level cuz knees arent up when running.

Then Michel proves my point when he clips the dummies (trash) in the RB drill….

Skins should go Guice early if they want a serious RB.

    • Penny and Michel may be All Pros..but Guice is the guy Skins should target all Im saying

  • Morning folks.
So Roquan Smith Ronald Jones and Vita Vea had to bow out of combine because of hammy issues. With Jordan Reeds issues for years makes me wanna steer clear of anything hammy.

  • Not much actual combine talk in this episode

  • Recent black QBs in the draft weren’t asked to do WR drills.

    So.

  • Jackson got asked to do WR drills because of Bill Polian’s comments.

  • Racist?

    Ehhhhhhh

  • Being more active in FA doesn’t mean being stupid in FA.

    • Not that anyone said anything about being stupid.

      • Our history as an organization, if we’re being honest, has not been one of being mental giants.
I hope they surprise me and do exceptionally well.

        • I know I’d rather be reserved in FA.

Add role players, not cap busting types that ultimately don’t live up to the expectations that their dollars demand.

          • If your going to spend money spend it on a top Guard.

          • This draft has too many guards for that.

          • I would rather have a 26 year old mauler of a guard.

          • I dig that. I’d rather have a 22 year old mauler for $1 million and spend that other $10 million in savings somewhere else.

          • the trouble is, as exceptional as these guys looked over the weekend at the combine, none of them are proven players at the next level. Not one. And many of them that look like they are Surefire hits will not make it or be very average-at-best

          • That would be awesome!

        • I think they need to use FA’s and get some good players, Philly did it last year.

  • Happy Monday!

    From MMQB:

Goodbye, going-to-the-ground. “Going to the ground is going away.” That’s what I was told about the Competition Committee’s early study and deliberations over the NFL’s catch/no-catch rule. The committee had long meetings here, and more study is due before the committee briefs Roger Goodell on its recommendations March 25 in Orlando, but the best chance—as of now—of a revised rule seems to be this: catch, two steps and doing something with the football that needs to be further defined. After those three elements, if the player falls to the ground and the ball is jarred loose, it’s a catch. That would make the infamous Dez Bryant and Calvin Johnson plays catches. The Jesse James play in Pittsburgh? A catch too, because he took two steps and turned to pierce the goal line with the ball. That would qualify, however it’s finally defined, as doing something with the football.

  • Much as I want to see him stay…Zach Brown’s ask is millions too high.

I don’t know why him and his agent are wanting to work the same strategy that they went with last year. Another year of a one year prove it deal would compound last year’s money left on the table.

    • Brown is not going to get that big contract, he was better last year and not injured and didn’t get anything but our 1 year deal.

    • We haven’t had a player at inside linebacker with Zach Brown skill’s in Forever. He made his presence felt immediately and all year long until he was injured at the end. if we don’t figure out a way to resign him, we better replace him with someone with equal or better Talent. That’s the problem!

      • Two way street. Brown hasn’t been with an organization willing to give him a giant contract. The Skins though, are willing to give him a big contract.

        • My point is, his presence last year clearly exhibited the dearth of talent we have had there for much longer than a decade. We need better Talent across the board!

Apparently Trumaine Edmunds killed it at the Combine. He’s only 19.

  • Ertz, Whitten…VD

  • Guy can’t stay on the field, you get called Jordan Reed.

  • Where does this expectation that a first year player ought to be amazing right out of the gate come from?
