I think as far as draft goes I’d grab DL at 1…..RB in 2…..then 4-7 you just try and pick guys who make your special teams better…maybe a project QB like Benkart or someone of that ilk. I think we can also get a WR, ILB, and maybe another DL and OG in FA.

speaking of playing that funky music, last saturday night, my wife and i and about 8 other friends went to a concert by “super fly disco” at the state theater. to be clear, i was a “disco sucks” guy back in the day. however, for this, we all dressed in 70s garb. i had a mostly-unbuttoned silk sort of patterned shirt and a giant, gaudy chain necklace, awful white belt, aviator glasses, bell-bottoms and silly sort of 70s hat. all the wives were out scouring thrift stores for this stuff for weeks before the show. others were similarly costumed. it was a crazy fun night. just so silly.

Those two fails were the difference between 10-6 and 8-7-1 but of course it’s all Cousins to you.

I submit we had a QB that was playing at a high level with very little talent around him. But I know that’s the minority opinion here. Doesn’t bother me. Smith will need a solid team around him to win games, like every other QB in the league. If we fix the running game and the defense, get better receivers, and maybe a kick returner, we’ll be a very good team.

The Redskins defense was dead last in the league in rushing yards allowed per game, and only four teams allowed more points per game. If the team drastically improves in those areas, finds a way to run the ball effectively, and gets some receivers who can separate and make tough catches, we could be a very good team this year.

Quick Gus Frerotte story: I had a boss at Andrews AFB who was a huge cowboys fan. Boss was being reassigned to McGuire AFB, so we were looking for a good going away gift for him. Gus just happened to be signing autographs on base that week, so I went and bought a Redskins hat and had him sign it with the inscription “to Col. _______, the #1 Redskins fan!” and then gave it to him in front of about 100 people at his going away dinner.

I’ll also give the Academy The Dark Knight – great movie and Heath Ledger was amazing, and I generally dislike Superhero movies. Titanic was also good. Rocky = great. But off that top of my head, at least, without looking, I can’t think of any other major award winning movies that I’ve see and thought were great. I’m sure there are a few more.

I think a good rule of thumb is to not waste time on movies that have been nominated for Academy Awards. There’ll be the odd one every once in awhile that’s worthwhile, but like I said, it’s a good rule of thumb.

Michael Shannon is such a great bad guy. A friend of mine used to be friends out with him back in Chicago in the 90’s, ran in a similar circle as Nick Offerman. I got a few good stories about both of them out of the guy over the years. Gist is that Shannon early on knew that his look and physical presence was intimidating and used it to get out of many a sticky situation.
Shannon was great in shape.

depending on what his contract really means, once the future years void his value really plummets and becomes zero after the 2018 trading deadline. the issue is that they’d need to trade him to an offense that Foles can do well in. I was about to go outside and re-arrange the patio with the hopes of getting a wind dead zone to run the side burner for some hot oatmeal and (later)… sausage.
we made ourselves some coffee on a little camping propane stove we have. was kind of “rustic” and fun, but, it gets old quickly.
that’s what we talked about getting. would use the same cylinder my propane torch (plumbing) would use, but my wife didn’t like the idea of heating food up with the torch

Taking a hyped big school guy at 13 with relatively low numbers, especially in the tackles for loss, and sack columns, regardless of a great combine, is a mistake, IMO.

you can’t, especially down a 3rd round pick, address every need. FA is a must and defensive line help is paramount imo for myriad reasons.
I’ve said on the show that question whether the Redskins are going to spend big money on a FA guard when they have Williams and Moses on huge contracts, and Scherff is about to get one. I think it’s more likely that they try and draft one, for that reason.

Panthers OG Andrew Norwell is a FA. He was PFF’s No. 3 OG last year (5 spots ahead of Scherff). But … he’ll cost over $10 million/yr.
btw, on the topic of drafting OGs high … Norwell was a 2014 UDFA.
A good guard is not going to be anywhere near the ballpark of cap friendly.
I have been saying that, as the roster is currently constructed (which could change during FA), that we shouldn’t draft anything by DL first round. Allen’s presence was really missed when he went down. Strong D line play has a significant impact throughout the entire defense.

Albert Wilson from Chiefs is somebody we might sign on the cheap at WR. He was #1 in yards of separation. Plus Smith is familiar with him.

Within, @SI_PeterKing has his top 10 and it doesn’t include Calvin Ridley. If he makes it to 13, the #Redskins better take him. Talked to a scout last night who just loves him. Complete receiver. Can come in and be a #1 on day 1.

i remember when beathard was drafting and after the draft, i’d think, “who”? “they drafted those guys?!” then, over the next few years i’d see how beathard knew more that i did about drafting players. i hope THAT happens this year and for years to come.
the NFL draft was almost more like Baseball at that point. Deep drafts, teams stashed prospects all the time.

Sheldon Richardson is an extremely talented defensive lineman, playing very strongly in the pass rush and run defense. He can play in both the 4-3 and 3-4, so he should garner tons of interest if he gets to the open market.
Skins should be interested in any good player.

If OG is your priority going into the draft, consider 2015. If we hadn’t taken Sherff with the 5th pick, the ginas would have with the 9th.
Should we so lucky as to find ourselves looking at Hernandez on the board at 13, you have to make that pick. If we don’t Dallas will at 19. Possibly the Ravens at 16 or the Seahawks at 18. Dallas though, you know their penchant for 1st round OL. And yea, they’re big on Hernandez. They already met him back at the Senior Bowl.
But look, with Nelson a top 5 and the 9er’s picking 9th and looking to protect their mega-contract QB…. is he even there at 13?
Either way, trading back means, not getting the guy you want and ending up having to scramble at making a decision on who’s still on the board. And well all know the FO isn’t good at scrambling.
Make the pick at 13.

But I like what flounder is saying about pick up a free agent left guard. To me then we take the best defensive lineman available at number 13 and a running back in the second round

Dalvin Tomlinson/Bama was a 3rd round pick for the Giants last year and one of the upper echelon rookies in production/snaps per PFFs stats. Solid DL can be drafted in mid rounds…

I don’t know why him and his agent are wanting to work the same strategy that they went with last year. Another year of a one year prove it deal would compound last year’s money left on the table.
Brown is not going to get that big contract, he was better last year and not injured and didn’t get anything but our 1 year deal.
We haven’t had a player at inside linebacker with Zach Brown skill’s in Forever. He made his presence felt immediately and all year long until he was injured at the end. if we don’t figure out a way to resign him, we better replace him with someone with equal or better Talent. That’s the problem!
Two way street. Brown hasn’t been with an organization willing to give him a giant contract. The Skins though, are willing to give him a big contract.
My point is, his presence last year clearly exhibited the dearth of talent we have had there for much longer than a decade. We need better Talent across the board!
