Quick Hit: Coaching Staff Change

The University of Stanford has announced via twitter that Redskins assistant OL coach Kevin Carbeery is moving on from D.C. to California to take a coaching position there. Carbeery had been Bill Callahan’s assistant the past two years.

There were reports that Phil Rauscher, an assistant in Denver, was coming to D.C. to join the Redskins roster as an assistant offensive line coach. The Redskins have not put out press release about these moves, though historically they haven’t done so for lower level coaching changes.  We will give you any more information if we get any.

Here’s the Tweet from Stanford:

  • Anybody feel like going and getting Coach Janky Spanky?

  • Who’s more likely to find a new home, Landry or Watkins?

  • Problem with Docston is who will he be catching balls from. If KC, I think they learned a lot from eachother over the season and can see a lot of progress between the two of them in 2018. If someone else, who knows.

  • I’m at 60% chance that Colt starts in 2018
25% that its another FA QB we sign
    10% we sign Kirk
5% that we draft a guy first round to start.

  • So, there was a rumor that the team wanted to give Crowder an extension, but I’m shocked we’ve not heard about anyone else on the team being re-signed or anything at this point. Usually they will try and lock up a few guys now.

    • May be trying to figure out what’s going to happen with KC and who may be an upgrade in FA.

    • as I said that is the huge decision point for the team with respect to the Cap – Cousins
if they decide to just move on we will see guys being resigned or extended
if it is going down to a tag situation, they will not sign anyone until the last minute possible
exception low cost guys like maybe Grant

    • Whatever they do, they gotta find someone else to return punts. The risk w/ Crowder is not worth the reward.

  • We do need another outside guy at WR. We can’t roll with Ryan Grant and Doctson on the outside. Hopefully we’re in the FAWR market.

    • I think a vet in FA and a guy like DJ Moore from Maryland in the draft. I’d also take a chance on Robert Foster late in the draft.

    • I keep wanting Mike Wallace to be the deep threat we lacked last year. He’s no D Jax but at least would be able to clear space underneath.

  • It was essentially Doctson’s rookie year. I think he will be light years better in 2018. Well…..if he has a competent QB delivering the ball.

  • Wow, Jeff Ratcliffe did some fun math on twitter, 25% of Doctson’s targets were in the Redzone last year, league average 6.8%
I think they need to embrace that as his roll. I want to see Doc as a 10+ TD a year player rather than try and make him the featured 1000 yards a season guy.

  • Rooney rule needs to go. Raiders are gonna get in trouble. I heard a radio interview on Dukes show with a guy who works for the Raiders…a reporter….and he said there is so much diversity in that building. It’s a stupid rule and kinda underhanded that teams have to “interview” a minority just to comply with this rule. When said minority has no real shot at the coaching job. It’s a waste of that candidates time…especially with the Raiders job..knowing they were gonna hire Gruden.

  • Because you’re what, I mean, you’re like, a seven, a six, seven in New York? Here, you’re a nine. Borderline ten. It’s called “Kabul Cute.”

  • I think the game that’s going to shock people is the Philly Atlanta game. Atlanta is a sissy dome team and Philly is a tough place to play. Nobody is giving them a chance. But they can run and play D. Despite Nick Foles, I think they can win.

    • I want the Eagles to win. I liked it back in the day when the NFC East was considered a hard division to play in.

    • No Punt Intended

      I think Atlanta’s defense is under-rated.

      • By whom?

        • No Punt Intended

Well I would imagine that people who keep their finger on the pulse of the league goings-on 12 months a year would not under-rate them but when talking about the Falcons, the conversation is always starting and ending with Matt Ryan, Julio, Sanu, their dynamic RB rotation, their TE and the potential psychological impact of collapsing in the SB last year.

Meantime their defense is killing people.

      • I’m not sure its good enough to go on the road in the playoffs…it’s gonna be cold again…..Philly can run. And they can def shut down a good offense. Julio and his foot…..I’m just saying Philly can def win…some say they lost already.

My text messages are coming in out of order. Anyone else having this issue?

  • Has it been confirmed that the WaPo is doing away with TI?

  • guess the movie, Hint, Based on a Steven King novel

“Father: [to Mike] As I was, you are. As I am, you will be.

No, here’s another quote. Wasn’t a huge hit, but for some reason I enjoyed it.

“You can choose to repeat this hour over and over again, or you can take advantage of our express checkout system.
[Mike looks into the other room and sees a hanging noose] ”

  • If we only Post here and nowhere else we will end up as inbred hills have eyes internet trolls

    re: terrell pryor

he was the same receiver for us as he was for the browns the previous year: a guy who catches about half the passes thrown his way. he had “great” numbers in cleveland because they threw to him all the time.

  • This place is better than TI anyway.

  • WaPo cutbacks span farther than just the wee-little blogs at RI, Bezos is also into their retirement kitty. But nooooooooooooooo, that’s not true. Ha ha ha.

  • If there’s one thing Jeff Bezos knows how to do, it’s make money. TI couldn’t have been a profitable thing for WaPo. Amazon will do what it needs to do in order to turn a profit. Communities aren’t really profit centers. You don’t make money off the guys who have been playing chess in the park for 40 years, which is basically what communities like this one are in the media world.

As you might expect, the #Redskins got mixed results from their free agent spending from last offseason—two wins, two losses, and one TBD. https://buff.ly/2qTCnzK

    • No Punt Intended

Which of those is Terrell Pryor?

      • I mean, I count Pryor alone as 2 losses.

        • No Punt Intended

Not sure who said Pryor was going to suck for us after registering a 1000+ yard season with the flaming dog turds they call QB’s in Cleveland. I think everyone here said he would better that; how could he not? Right? Total fucking let down but anyone who says they saw that coming is full of shit.

          • Absolutely, I didn’t know if he would be a 1,000 yard guy or not, but no way I thought he would end up this level of bust, all we heard was that he and Kirk were working together 24-7 in the off season to get on the same page and it was going great. Then he face planted like a fat kid running after an ice cream truck.

    • Brown and DJ are wins. Pryor and McClain are losses and I guess Mcgee is a wait and see.

  • 11 bravo, really? “That is wildly inappropriate.”

  • What’s crazy about the WAPO TI was that lots of people went there to read the content, but not everyone commented. I talked to a lot of people who said that. People would scroll through our comments and read them but never comment themselves.

  • Alex, don’t know if you saw my posts from last night

got some inside scoop of what is going on at the Post

lots of changes in the Sports area, Liz is the only person on the beat know familiar with Redskins and the blog

sounds like the Amazon folks have come in to “consult” with WaPo web guys and have some analytics that show multiple small blog update do not drive enough traffic to warrant doing them

their “whole blog philosophy” is changing

and Keith has moved to a Deputy Editor position outside of Sports

    • Fuck them then.

    • “analytics that show multiple small blog update do not drive enough traffic to warrant doing them”

vs no update and no traffic.

      Fantastic logic at play there.

    • I mean we knew some of it, that they lost Master and Mike in a span of what 3 months? There was a reason they jumped ship that we’re not being told. I am sure that their analytics show them what they want it to show them, and I’m not gonna fault them for it.
I remember when I went in for that job interview a year ago & to me it’s clear the post wants to go away from written reporting to doing way more TV/Podcasting. Which is probably also a factor. And I’m not saying that’s right or wrong btw. Remember how a decade ago people made fun of news outfits for stopping printing papers? Those guys look way smarter now IMO. I think the future of all media is in successfully going to mixed media formats.

    • In less than an hour, hamsters from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest BYGO battle in this history of wasting time.
Wasting time — that word should have new meaning for all of us today.
We can’t be consumed by our petty differences anymore.
We will be united in our common interests.
Perhaps its fate that today is the 12th of January, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom, not from moderators, losable type or paywalls — but for posting gifs.
We’re fighting for our right to live, to exist.
And should we win the day, the 12th of January will no longer be known as an normal Friday, but as the day when hamsters declared in one voice:
We will not go quietly into the night!
We will not vanish without a fight!
      We’re going to live on!
      We’re going to survive!

    way to go WaPo!

  • Moe blogging by himself again.

  • I’m glad to see the team is gonna try to go with a “stabilize & develop” mentality. I think most NFL teams are way too quick to say “we’re not getting what we need from this group of players, we need to fire this or that coach.”

There are two ways to get better at coaching… improve your existing coaches or get new coaches. The first method seems largely forgotten about in the NFL. Rather than develop your staff, you cut them and they go develop somewhere else, while you bring in some other team’s guy.

    • We’ll be raving about the coaches as the roster improves. I mean, it’s hard to say the RB’s or whatever suck and blame the RB coach.

    • I know right. It’s good to consistently suck at teams and struggle in the skill positions.

    • I agree to a point but I think we also need to take into account that some of these guys who may not be producing as coaches, at this point they may have a long track record. That’s my big issue with Randy Jordan, he’s not new to coaching at this point in his career, he’s 47, and in his 15 years now as a running backs coach in college and the nfl he’s yet to really produce any impressive results anywhere, just about every RB he gets his first year production goes down, a 1300 yard back becomes an 1100 yard back. His resume is just not good after all this time.

Chris Thompson is the only success he’s really had with the skins, and while Thompson can be a great weapon, he’s not an every down player, and is only a small part of the equation at RB for any team.

      • Does Randy Jordan get any credit for turning Chris Thompson into a key member of our offense?

        • No Punt Intended

No because there was never a question as to whether CT could play or not. The only reason he was not a part of our game plans on offense early in his career was because he was always hurt.

          So no.

          • CT played 13 games in 2015 and 16 games in 2016, and he wasn’t a heavily used part of our offense.

          • No Punt Intended

His availability and durability have absolutely impacted his development. So irrespective of how many games he might have had a few plays, no, I afford no special credit to some no-name coach for any perceived development during the time CT was healthy and available. CT is a highly talented rotational RB who no one here should consider a franchise-carrying back.

        • I don’t think you can blame a RB coach for a guy’s production going down. It’s not like Randy Jordan is teaching guys now to forget how to run the football. It’s also not like he’s calling running plays or putting the team into constant long yardage situations.

Basing the production of the RBs on the RB coach is the WRONG way to measure a RB coach’s effectiveness.

I can see not liking Jordan because he wasn’t able to develop Matt Jones. But that gets countered (IMO) by developing Chris Thompson. But you can’t put the running game results on the RB coach and fire him if there aren’t enough yards, that’s way too simplistic and doesn’t account for myriad factors that go into the results of the running game.

    Amazing

    • Nice! Full adult, they go through 3 molts after the juvenile plumage before that. Takes 4+ years.

      • This one is BIG. Someday maybe I’ll find the SD card with him chasing the Crows off the gut pile. He landed about 30 yds from them and started “hop-strutting” towards them with his wings out. Must have been over 6′ wingspan. Those pics are clear, shot with a Nikon digital camera.

i’d like an article about instant replay. i love replay, in theory, but it seems to me like it’s poorly implemented. why does it take 1, 2, 3 minutes for a review when we can all see the proper call in 2 replays and maybe 15 seconds? are they planning to modify how it’s done? if the thing goes back to some booth in ny, why can’t 5 people be reviewing the call each looking for certain things, like the substance of the call, as well as ball placement and time on the clock.

i want them to get all the calls right (replay benefitted the redskins more often than not this season as i recall), but i don’t like how long it takes. what, if anything, are they doing to address that?
